Dark spots on chameleon. Could it be burns?

So the other night I was looking at my chameleon, and I saw black spots. The next morning they were gone but once I put him on his tree, they were back. Could this be burns from his basking light? They are mostly on the top of him but a small spot on his side.

If better pictures needed, I can do that.

I don’t see any burns but I’m not an expert. It could be the blacl spots are a reaction to you being near or handling him. I’ll tag someone in with more experience with panthers.

I am seeing a pattern of discoloration on the side. I am not sure what else you are referring to though. Maybe circle the spots so we can tell. Anyways the pattern of discoloration on the side of the body very well could be due to a slight thermal burn. Double check your temps and distance from the cham to the bulb. Depending on the type of bulb being used this may have been too strong.

His basking light temperature is around 85-90 degrees, it is a zilla mini halogen with a 25-watt white day bulb.

the black spots show up more at night when he is asleep. I will try to get a better picture then.

This is kind off the same dicoloration spot i had with my male panther. I talked about it with @Beman and decided to try a diffrent type of light bulb. Some bulbs concentrate the lightbeam too much and create a burning point. I then switched from halogen bulb to incandescent flood bulb and that worked really well. Never saw those spots again.

It's just a basking light, my uv light is a reptisun T5 HO light.

Get a regular incandescent white bulb 60-75 watt. Make sure there is at least a 9 inch distance and your looking for basking temps of no hotter than 80-85 max.
