Hey everyone
I finally found our first chameleon!
I setup an old 35 gallon fish tank which I washed and dried very well (my 6ft cage is to big for a baby).
My humidity is about 45% and the temps are about 81.5 below the light.
I have a bowl for the crickets, and I was told he should eat 3-5 day!
I got a cup for a dripper(1 drop every 2-3 seconds)
I`ll be misting two times a day!
I have pics below!

Any advice would be appreciated
I did research hopefully I`m doing it right!

You REALLY NEED an all screen cage and a Repti-sun 5.0 UVB light. What lights are you using now? How are you supplementing?

Dustin

Have you looked into getting a screen cage?
Those are mostly recommended.
Some people in Europe have had luck with keeping chameleons in glass.
Just wanted to say that...

I have been told by senior members that a glass tank with screen top is fine until he`s 5 or 6 months! check out my other threads! I have a 24`x32`x6ft assembled and waiting for him!
I have a 5.0 reptisun and a 25watt normal bulb for basking!
cricket with proper gut loading!(potato, carrots, lettuce, etc..)
I have calcuim d3 for dusting
I`m hoping I`m lucky too!

Alrighty! :D
for supplements you can use these:
Cal w/o D3
Cal with D3
and Herptivite
Use Cal w/o d3 daily,
Cal with d3 2 days a week
herptivite monthly
Light dusting.

dont mean to be the echo but, their right, you really wanna go with a screen cage. even though veilds are really hardy, the trapped heat and lack of ventilation might prove to be a problem sooner than later. Also after misting for a few days in that size tank, coupled with the heat bulb....your gonna find the humidity will get way too high. make the changes there and read the link on general care at the top of the general discussion section and you should be on the right path!! good luck with em :D

---edit--- just saw your replies to the others lol. if its just temporary you should be good for a short while, also if he gets accustum to eating crix from the cup, you may be able to make that move sooner than you think. the biggest problem with oversized enclosures is just making sure they can catch food. this isnt a problem for chams that arre eating from a cup or bin. good luck

Thanks kill! your right I`m alittle worried!
I put a 25 watt bulb cause I don`t want to fry the little guy! 81.5F
My humidity is at 30% now! really low how can I get up

Humidity doesn't have to be constant!
In a screen cage the humidity will NOT stay constant.
They just need a spike after misting and such.

you probably wont even have to wait that long, 4.5-5 months and he should be big enough to go into the bigger cage.

Also 3-5 crickets seems a lil on the low end, 5-7 would be better imo.

hey psi hows it going

Finally found one! the highest humidtiy has been 50% and highest temp 81.5
with a 25watt bulb should I up the wattage! maybe 50 or to much.
Ya 5-7 sounds better, do agree with bowl feeding.

these are some things tat i have tried to raise humidity and they worked for me. you can increase the timespan of each of your mistings, ie. if your misting for 30 seconds make it 1 minute. the added moisture will take longer to evaproate and bring it up. or you can add another misting session. also your basking temp can be 10 degrees higher as well so if you increase the wattage, and increase your misting schedual....that will definately do the trick

Though i wouldnt be too concerned cause i believe after a few days you will find that your humidity will rise to normal levels. its bound to happen in the glass tank. veileds are excellent first chams cause they can thrive in such different environments so dont go nuts. again this is just my experience and my opinion. take advice from many and use what you like. have fun:D

Kill your right! more misting sessions should do the trick. Trying not to go nuts over temps and humidity. First one so I`m worried.

you got this under control!!! no worries. you need to stop lying to yourself and rename the post "MY new pet chameleon" i told my wife they were for the kids too. lol:D:D

I think you will do fine with the glass tank a a nursery... check out all the european cages... I have personally raised many babies in 35 gallon glass tanks..if ventilation seems an issue blow a small fan across, not into the tank. but with an all screen top it shouldn't be a problem. watch the temps on hot days, raise the bulb if you have to.. maybe hang it from something. Also, noticed.. one of your plants is toxic, the croton, the one with the wide coloured leafs. maybe try a small pothos, they're cheap and veileds seem to love eating them
