Daytona Reptile Breeders Expo 2012

Dr O

Veterinarian
fun weekend, got to see some buddies that i haven't seen for a while, networked, and enjoyed the heck out of the show. haven't been to this one since it ws still in Orlando, probably 12 years or so as i had moved up to NY.

fairly disappointing overall in the cham department, imo (except for the nice panther that Olimpia picked up). i had mentioned in another thread that there was a good looking Faly, but by the end of the first day his nose rub from stressing was awful, and then he was gone. dunno if he was sold or if they took him off display. lots of veiled babies everywhere, maybe 30ish panthers, some mediocre Jackson's and a few Verrucous. highest prices as always went to the 2 headed snake ($50k), and many ball pythons in the $10k-25k range.

here's some shots that i took, just trying to capture the feel of the show for those that want to know what it was like. it's really hard to take decent pix there since they're obviously mostly through cages, the glare of the lights for display purposes, and the general hustle and bustle going on. i commend jannb and trd1215 for their photos! it is possible that about 2/3 of what was there was comprised of ball pythons and maybe leopard geckos. more than a few of our photos coincide with each other of the last 1/3rd.

wow lots of beautiful animals there! I am a turtle and tortoise lover but not a snake person, but I sure can appreciate their beauty. Some of their patterns are just gorgeous. I don't think I would have bought any of the silks or horns as the cups are turned upside down and all the poop is in the chow! yuk!!! thanks for posting all the pics!!

well, i bought 4 of the silkworm containers. the hornworms were $12 for about a dozen, and the silkworms were $10 for about 40 large in each container. couldn't pass up on a treat for my gang!

I am a turtle and tortoise lover

there were turtles galore--several species that i was unfamiliar with. most weren't great photo ops as they were hatchlings swimming in small Critter Keepers all over the table, but i was surprised by the strong chelonian presence.

Thank you so much Dr. O! :D

I looove seeing show pics. I have to say.. I'm a little mad at you for posting pics of the Green Tree Pythons. I have conflicting emotions. A fear of handling snakes, and my undying love for GTP's. I want to own one so badly, but they have quite the mean reputation. Lol. The most beautiful animals, always have to be the most difficult.. :(

Enjoyed. Very nice shots.

Im not a snake guy myself but when i got down to the scaleless texas rat. I hadnt scrolled down far enough to see the labels. I sat there for a good minute looking at that snake. i was intrigued by the lack of scales and the eyes look a bit off too. I would like to know the amount of time that someone spent on that morph/

Great photos Dr. O I sure do miss the show in Orlando when i use to go back then it was a bigger showcase. I agree very dissapointed in the Chameleon Department in Daytona. Now they have the Repticon F.I.R.E. show at that same hotel in Orlando, not sure how that one is. Got to make another trip :).

Wow some great pics, the color on the bearded dragons were just amazing. The snakes were unreal also. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing these great pics! I myself own 9 different species of turtles, and from what I hear on the turtleforums, this show has a great turtle selection. :)
