i'm new to this part of caring for my panther. he's a 15 month old ambilobe panther that (after his last fecal test) has round worms. i would never have thought so by the look of him. eating fine and well hydrated. my vet has no info on treating a reptile...could someone give me a hand?

Forgot to mention .... this med is virtually impossible to overdose
Howdy,

As Harry (Chroma) said, it's hard to overdose with Panacur, unlike some other chameleon parasite drugs. To that end, many vets will prescribe Panacur for the parasites that it treats, at a rate of 1cc/kg of the paste right out of the tube. So, for example, if your chameleon weighs 100 grams then dose him with 0.1cc of the paste and again in 2 weeks. I have found that injecting the paste into a feeder like a superworm, silkworm, hornworm or a dubia and feed-off right away works well.

dar - thanks!

sorry it took so long to get back! i'm very green about this whole thread and post and blogs thing...and thank you for all the info! your right, i'm freaking! i'm located in santa ynez, ca. but no worries! i got some on my weekend!

thanks again!:D

speaking of vets, my cham is still young only 2-3months old. I have never taken him to a vet or did I plan on it till I read this post. My Veiled Cham only cost 25.00 bucks so it seemed like overkill. But now that I am reading these threads it kinda scares me. What do you guys usually pay for a average vet visit? Is it like my dog because a normal vet visit for him is always like 175-250 they always want to do something weird to him.

i dont know where youre located but i went to a vet in arroyo grande that knows about reptiles. dont bother going to a regular vet - they'll take your money and say "oh, i dont know what to do. you should find someone else." complete waste of time!

i send $50+ on a visit and then any meds i may need. mostly i just send them a fecal sample and they'll test it for about $25-$30. i do this 1-2 yearly.

Mmm I recently purchased a new beardie and for a checkup that included a fecal and a culture, it cost $169. And they actually took money off of that too. Idk if u can get insurance for reptiles but if u can that would help a lot. Cuz that killed my wallet pretty bad..
