Decisions, Decisions...What to Do??

Well life has been quite complicated lately and I haven't been on the forums much lately, just browsing around and seeing what everyones been up to.

Lately I feel I've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I'm running around from school to work to horses to sleep and starting the next day the same way. I haven't had any time to take either of my chams out to free range. Typically I'm home only long enough to feed and mist in the morning. By the time I get back my guys are already fast asleep. (Now I'm ranting)...I'm deciding whether or not to find them a home where they will receive more attention and be spoiled as much as possible. Both my guys are so friendly that I'm not sure what to do. I wish my math and science courses would just disappear...problem solved!

Ideas anyone??

Get a girlfriend to help you around the house?...

:D Ha! This cracked me up! Too bad I am the girlfriend, so I suppose I would need a boyfriend in the house ;)

Maybe you can give the cham to someone for awhile until you are able to care for them?

It's not that I can't take care of them but just that I can't spend enough time with them in terms of bringing them out and free ranging. They're still one of my most spoiled animals, well besides crickets of course ;) I will keep them but felt like ranting. Chemistry and math suck and take up way too much time!

isnt there some way you could "lease" kind of like a horse? maybe find a kid who is really interested in chams and teach them how to take care of/handle/ect. and let them spend 1 hour daily with them? was just an idea :)

if i were in your position i would just get a misting system. the chams dont NEED to come out, and your class isnt going to go on forever. problem solved!:)

And this too..........shall pass. :)

When I was in college, during a summer quarter (which is only 8 weeks long) I took Micro-Biology, Chemistry II, and College Algebra.

DANG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What was I thinkin' ???? Those type classes take a lot of time, but you will be through them soon enough. I know that sometimes, even today..........it seems that 24 hours, just isn't enough hours to get all the things we want to do............done.

Hang in there.......... :D

I see that you are in "nursing"..........I had several classes with people that were alreadn LPN's going on to become RN's. Just get through it.........I was taking all my prerequisite's for the Respiratory program. To be quite honest, at least for me..........those three classes were a LOT of useless information that was just a requirement for getting in the program. I think that they thought those classes would "weed out" the students that weren't fully committed to the program.

I will say..............I don't envy you, but if I got through it...........YOU will too..........with flying colors, I'm sure.

AT least chams don't really "miss" their people or pine away when you aren't around. They might miss their time in free range but I doubt it's bothering them too much.

Thank you everyone for your input, I really appreciate it. I will be looking around the next few months for a suitable home locally. Most likely I will keep them unless I find a better home.

My biggest concern is over the summer, I actually had some luck and will be traveling to horse shows throughout Washington. I will need to figure out some plan but I've all winter to figure that one ;)

And yes, chemistry is a killer. I'm not too excited for organic chemistry next semester. A nursing major is definitely kicking my butt. I never thought I'd say this but I like math more then chem!

as long as their cages are clean, and water, food, temps, humidity, and uvb requirement are provided, your chams are acctually most likely happy all by themselve without anybody bothering or looking at them.

i have chams that always want out WHEN they see me but if im not there i dont think they get sad:rolleyes:;):)

I interact will ALL my animals on a daily basic. I believe that chameleons need attention besides the boring life of sitting in a cage all day. If you see that you have no time for them you might want to consider re-homing them but be very careful that you don't put them in a way worse situation.

Thank you Jann, I really appreciate your input. I'll be looking for potential homes that'll be able to give both guys the attention they deserve if I find I won't be able to provide them their proper care.

Ok Michele, I tried to stay out as I don't agree with some people on their post.

I do agree with the post's i copied as they are a bit more realistic. A couple things about me. I free range 2 chams. I truly free range my chams. Each has a densely planted 8' x 8' area. They have uvb & heat lights, a mistking and drippers. I often go a day or two with out seeing one or either of them. Mostly I see them when I feed them. All chams like to be out of cages, and I am aware not everyone has the space to do what I do. When a cham is contained and has to interact with people they are not really free ranged. They are just in a more open area. Chams by nature don't need or want interaction with us. Watch all the shows of chams in the wild - every see one run to a human?? When in captivity chams need food, water, shelter, heat UVB, and safety from predators. They don't need us. Lots of us want to think they need us but talk to the people who have been successfully keeping chams for many years. Ask fluxlizard, Chuck G, Trace, Motherlode Chameleon, SSimsswiSS, Kingyongia. These people have been successful for a lot of years, all of then 10 + years. they are a part of the group who have the right to say they know chameleon keeping.

We all like to think our chams like and need us, yes they walk out on our hands - they want out of cages, we look like a way out. Don't let anyone tell you that you are not provinging for you chams because you don't have time to take them out of cages. They will be just fine without that interaction.

This is just my opinion after reading a lot of information by people who ARE experts, and watching how chams interact in their natural world.

couldnt have said it better myself, chams are NOT social creatures they ARE solitary territorial animals, that fact that they tolerate us is just a bonus
