I was wondering if anyone uses Equine Dewormer Panacur 25gram paste 10% (100mg/g) to deworm there chams?

If you do how much do you use? How many times and what formula do you use to calculate dose by wieght?

My vet once said you cant over dose on panacur, but I still wouldnt want to give 2 much :)

Thanks Noelle

It may be hard to overdose on panacur, however what is easy to overdose on is the toxic biolode of dead parasites that begin to rot in the gut. This one reason why Panacur is administered in controlled amounts over a long time period. Treatment is best provided 2-3 times, two weeks beween each, to hydrated, eating chameleons.

What is the chameleons weight in grams?

How do you know your chameleon has parasites?
How do you know what parasite(s) your chameleon has?
How do you know that panacur will kill the parasites your chameleon has (if it does have them)?

Hey :)

Was just a general question, my Chameleons dont have parasites at all right now:) When my one female did have them the vet gave her a liquid panacur.

My friend is a horse breeder, she recently gave me a tube of panacur just incase I ever needed it. I would go to a vet to get the fecal tested of course. Thats how I found the parasites in some of the chameleons I have purchased in the past year.

I was just wondering if any breeders ever used that type of panacur. Im sure if I can use it the Vet would let me know. My question was really just out of curiosity.

Thanks

Hi Will,

Well I dont have any Cham in mind, since nobody is sick right now. So we can make up a weight :) Have you used this kind of Panacur before to deworm your crew? The Equine kind :)

Im trying to have some medicine in a Chameleon medicine box so if I have a problem, I can ask my vet and she'll tell me what I can use from what I have on hand. Its cheaper for me to buy the medicines I need from my friend, who is an equine manager.

Thanks for your help :)

I've used horse deworming paste for years. It's the same thing. I think the brand I've been getting here is Saf-T-Guard or something like that, but it's the same concentration of Fenbendazole which is what matters.

Dilute the paste down some? You don't want to give so much that you'd risk asphyxiation, but giving a little more than the recommended dose probably won't hurt if you give it at 10%.

That makes sense . . . thanks! I will keep that in mind. I also ordered that powdered supplement (Parazap) but read that it is only a preventive solution. (Hey, wasn't that you?)
