My female veiled Twinks has started digging in her laying bucket as she is due anytime soon. How many days will she do this for because she seems to test area's then leave it then go back then try somewhere else then leave it.......!?!
Its going to be the 4th day shes been doing this tomorrow im just getting a little worried! As i dont want her to become egg-bound!!!!

Has anyone had this problem or know how long she can go???

Thanks Stu

Ps Also if and when she lays the eggs do i get them out straight away for incubation?

The bucket is 10" deep it holds 9 gallons so its deep enough. I saw something about if its the 1st time digging you can help them out and make at tunnel???

Lily used to dig test holes for a few days before she was happy to lay. With her last clutch she dug around a bit for 3 days and dug for real on the 4th day. Once she starts digging, don't let her see you watching or she will stop and abandon the hole. If she does this too many times then there is a risk of her becoming eggbound.

If she digs a hole and leaves it... she prolly sees you watching her. Do not watch her or allow her to see anyone or anything watching or moving. You might also not have the dirt wet enough... maybe she doesn' tlike the dirt. It is a good idea to put fake or real plants in the bucket as well. In the wild they dig near roots for security.....

you'll know the dirt is wet enough when it doesn't cave in on itself. It should hold form.

She cant see me when i look. I checked the soil last night when she was asleep and its seems fine. Maybe i should leave her and see what happens!

best thing is to keep it simple... a plant for 'cover' and wall high enough to keep her in and dirt deep enough for her to dig.... then place in an area where she won't see anyone or anything for a few hours while she digs. if she isn't digging just leave her in the cage till you see her poking aorund the bottom of her cage or in her plant pot.
