Direct sun basking

I decided to take my little guy out this morning for his 1st outdoor sun basking. I cup fed him dusted crickets and a couple meal worms. He then proceeded to bask while I had coffee.

I noticed he puffed up a bit is this normal? Is it to absorb more sun?

How many hours of direct sun light should he get a week?

Thanks!

flattening their body and going darker is pretty normal creates more surface area to absorb. There really is no limit how much he should get natural sun is by far more beneficial than artificial lighting so any amount is better than none and the more the better. some keepers have to ability to house theirs outside that is providing they have enough shade and everything and water

Peter and Ender will both do that, too. I do believe that it's for soaking in more heat/sunlight. He looks happy to be outdoors :)

Normally a cham should have 12 hours of UVB daily. You could technically have that just be sunlight, if the sun is up for 12 hours where you are. But sunlight is way better than a bulb's UV rays, so you could probably get away with 10, 9, 8 hours and he'd get the right amount of UV.

I'm only able to have my guys out for about 2 hours max...

He has the normal 10-12 hours a day or artificial light. I was just curious if there was a certain amount of direct sunlight he should get. I guess the more the merrier.

in the wild they can access the sun as long as it is shining . just give the chameleon a shade area in case it needs to get out of the sun
