DIY vines/hanging plants??

Hello. I was reading a review for a prepackaged vine/silk plant similar to ones found in pet stores or anywhere you can buy reptile items. I saw a comment about going to a craft store and making your own vines/plants with silk flowers there for less price. If I make a trip to a craft store in my area is there something I need to look out for (as in what the item is made of, or how its glued together-- how do I know it will be safe for my chameleon?) Thanks.

I got most of mine from a couple of craft stores. Just be careful of the small pieces that may come off when tugged on. Not sure what type of animal you have, or will be getting, but loose glue, fake flowers and plastic berries are all on a veiled's list from what I've seen! Also, be sure to check fore exposed wire. Don't need any unnecessary vet bills!!!

I have only had my cham for a couple of months, but I caught him tearing the leaves off of the artificial plants and eating them. There were quite a few missing when I inspected the vine. I was majorly worried, but he is okay.

I have no idea where the lady that owned him before me got the plants, but I would suggest you tug at the leaves to make sure they won't peal off. You don't want to have him get impacted.

Live plants only....Many chameleons are omnivorous and get their micronutrients from plants. Fake plants look nice but do not serve the chameleon in anyway better than a live plant.

Right now I have an umbrella tree in there (my panther never has climbed on it... yet)... and I have 3 vines (6 ft each wrapped all around which he loves to hang around on and sleep on)... one stick in the corner for basking on under the lamp (I have only seen him on there once). I have a larger branch down in my basement that is ready to be put in. I didnt make it to the craft store yet. I will definitely keep an eye out for small pieces and/or wire that may be sticking out! I assume they are mostly made of silk then which is ok for them (unless they eat/bite it)

What i use is live plants which they due rarely climb on but they drink from and it provides a sense of shelter and comfort. Then I use old dead sturdy non poisonous sticks for them to climb on. Just what works for me
