Do all Chams Enjoy Misting?

I'm a new chameleon owner. I just got my first cham (Quazimoto-3 month old Veiled) yesterday. I have a drip system and hand mister.

My question is this, is it normal for some chams not to enjoy misting? I've read many posts on this site and most people talk about how their chams love it!

I've used both room-temp and warm water and he only moves away from the water (or hides under a leaf). Is this just a new cham getting used to his new home or something else?

Any advice is appreciated!

I would say most chameleons hate being misted. Maybe not. They can find it scary and often get defensive.

It helps if you use hot water. If youre picky, you should heat cold water and not use hot water from the pipes.

The mist gets cooled down really fast, so use varmer water that one would think. Spray your hand, if its a nice lukewarm feeling its about right. They tend to enjoy a good misting this way.

The chams I have had automated misting systems to seem to accept the misting better than the ones without, I think its the whol thing with you and your hand and the misting device that adds on to the scaryness.

Mine absolutely hates it, but i do it anyway. I did start doing the warm water trick and he seems to tolerate it slightly, slightly more. I too beleive its the whole thing with you, having something in your hand, spraying water at them, that scares them more than anything.

I believe it's all dependant on the animal. Get to know his/her habits and personality. Some love a good shower, mine runs and hides until I leave the room. Just like people, each chameleon is different. That is not to say that at times it may be necessary to spray him/her, ie: to aid in shedding, getting a dehydrated cham to drink, and helping them to clean their eyes.

My first cham, Lily, used to sit under the mist when I misted the cage, but my newbie, Amy runs as far away as she can!:D

My veiled runs away as soon as the actual mist comes near him. If he's getting a little indirect mist (I use a hand pump mister), he'll stay put.

Mine hates it! he runs away and normaly hides his head behind a leaf in a "if i cant see you you cant see me" way!

my ambilobe tolerates it much as he tolerates me: with thinly disguised contempt. But lately he's been drinking when I hand mist, so he cant be all that miserable.

My chams doen't seem to mind the mist.... my female veiled kinda freaks but my two male veileds don't mind. In the morning I find Fred waiting for the mist. he sits about 6" from the jet directly in front of it on a vine just waing. And he will sit there the entire 20 minutes.

My Melleri don't seem to mind. My big guy Henry will move out of the mist sometimes or just close his eyes. The others all just take it... All of them have hite rates. The only cham I have who doesn't have white urates all the time is my Panther... he doesn't like the mist all that much and so I take it he doesn't drink much... I need to work on that.

Issues are that the water is too cold if your cham runs. at least that is what I have noticed.

wow mine love misting and idk they open their mouths and stick out their tongues so they drink too i guess i have weired chams

My chams didn't like it when I hand misted, but now with the Mistking they are fine with it. To them I think it's more like rain when it comes from a misting system. I have to fill my 5 gallon bucket everyday.

My veield runs away soemtimes even with the smallest bit of mist coming near him he is however quite a fan of the dripping system (cup with hole in bottom).
