Do hornworms go bad?

Was wondering if hornworms go bad, there all still alive some bigger than others but I wasn’t sure if there was a point if they go bad and get sick and full of disease

When they die yes they go bad. But they will go through metamorphosis where they eventually are really large and will start to cocoon so they can then turn into a very large moth.

Keep in mind depending on the size of your cham do not feed them insects that are too large for them. Especially hornworms because the larger they get the thicker their skin is and they become a choking hazard for the cham and their mandibles are large and they will bite down on a chameleon. This can then create wounds in the mouth that can lead to mouth rot.

And I’m assuming you can use the moths as feeders?

Depending on the size of your cham. It is not a once size fits all situation.

turn the hornworm upside down, on the bottom of each worm there should be an expiration date. I still find that eating them past the given date they’re fine, if not a bit sweeter.

Just stop feeding them. Then they nom nom each other and you end up with one big worm.

I actually had two hornworms cocoon into a moth, of course I let my chameleon hunt them,. Actually one of the hornworm cocoon inside his cage. LOL
