my male ambanja seems to hate the very sight of me, i went to clean his cage and he puffed up and hissed at me, he even suicide jumped from his branch cause my arm was too close to it, its kinda funny on one hand but it still makes me a little sad... maybe he will warm up to me one day...

lol. One of my males I was told when I got him did not like to be handled and he jumps out at me when I open the door to be handled. The other male hisses and gapes at me when I come near his cage. My 2 girls are super sweet and dont mind the occational handling. So I think it just depends on the individual cham....

lol, they sure are funny, i can be sitting on the other side of the room and if he can see me he will flare up and get his colors going. My girl on the other hand seems to like me just fine, they both are jumpers though, i almost had a heart attack when i opened the cage to put food in and the little female comes flyin out, bounces off the floor(3ft down to soft thick carpet), and keeps on going like nothing ever happened

nahhhh in Cesar Millan's word: Animal doesn't hate. Only human does.

It's all relate to trust issue, man.
Be patient and slowly build his confidence.
Associate your presence as positive events such as feeding, misting, and basking.

My panthers don't hate me, but all my veileds do!
Mean, ungrateful, coon@$$ chameleons!
They can be mean all they want and no matter what, I will still like them.

A mean chameleon is a healthy one.
They aren't bearded dragons, and definitely no a holdable pet, they are a showcase animal.

Hahaha. My first panther male still doesnt like me after over a year with him. He puffs up at the site of me but he does know I bring the food. If I hold out a feeder he calms down long enough to snatch it then holds it in his mouth and puffs back up all pissed hahahahaha. I LOVE IT!!! Its the natural instinct of a solitary and territorial animal. Its just him being a chameleon and you have to respect however he wants to act. My other male on the other hand loves me. He will climb on my hand as soon as I put it in the cage. If I try and put him on something else he tries not to get off of me. Its probably just the warmth and him not really loving me but yes it is nice. I hope your guy calms for you but if not dont be so upset.

im not upset at all, i think its kind of funny, i just wanted to see if there were others like him, one one hand, we really dont know each other that well yet, on the other, we never will with his attitude, lol. If i want to play with a pet i can pull out my boa, he hates being locked up in a cage and seems to love to be held, and fed...

I just really want to get to a point where i can do regular cleaning and feeding duties without him getting pissy with me,:D lol

animals are an instant based creature, take goodall and the gorillas for example it took them MONTHS and MONTHS for her to be even allowed to interact with a heard.

truely it comes down to trust and who feeds them in the end.

They do each seem to have their own personality.
I have one female who dislikes and mistrusts me/ everything (a sensible instinct). The two newest, babies, are wary. One male is currently pissed with me because I have to smear medication on him, but normally is fine with me / tolerates me. Another male and a female doesnt mind me at all, and one male even seems to like me (he wouldnt last long in the wild with that friendly attitude, but he does fine in captivity!).

i think this picture says it all... DSCI0571.jpg note the look he has in his eye... he hates me, lol, but i still love him

I have a male Ankaramy and in every pic that I have of him in or out f his cage he is in constant flex...Never a happy guy unless im not home...;)
