Does anyone else have to save their plants from their Veiled Chameleon? 🤣

I just finished switching out some plants from my veiled’s enclosure that she completely destroyed. Does anyone else have to do this? I think it’s so funny and cute

Yep most of us that are veiled owners have a swap out method. This is where having the pots in pots makes life easier for rotation. lol Beman chews on plants much less as he has gotten older though.

Veiled females will strip a pot his plant right down to the soil. Males …not so much. pits said that the veileds eat leaves to help push food like caterpillars through their digestive system…but if that’s the reason they do it why do females strip the plants bare but males only seem to nibble a few leaves? It doesn’t leave us with much choice but to replace the plants frequently and hope we can figure it out someday.

The panthers will nibble the bark of the branches in their cages.

Some chameleons will eat soil and sand substrates too.

I don’t know if other chameleons do such things.

For some reason my girl veiled doesn’t eat any leaves . Maybe more the exception than the rule

I have about half of my plants in the double pot system right now. Its like she rips apart the leaves because she is bored or something. My poor money tree...

Almost all of my female veiled stripped the pathos bare….it didn’t matter if they laid eggs or not.

Maybe someday we will figure it out.

Ya, I would say my girl would just destroy the plants if I didn't trade them out regularly. My panther I see him licking his sticks often. Silly boy. Do you know why they do that? It's almost like he is tasting the stick to see if it tastes good.

I just find the little triangular bite marks the cutest. I imagine my girls sitting there eyeballing a leaf deciding whether or not to take a nibble. If you want to give your sweet girl a special treat, get her a hibiscus plant or some flowers (make sure not treated with chemicals though). Old pic but one of my faves.

it got annoying when i had a hibiscus right as a pretty pink flower would bloom bam it was gone to bruce he loved them for some reason

I love the triangles too! It’s so endearing. I love that she still has the ‘evidence’ on her face from eating that flower.

I actually did get a flower plant for her enclosure this last weekend without realizing the middle part was totally a choking hazard because it looks like a caterpillar. So I took it out after I realized she was ‘aiming for it’. More plants for my house I guess and I’ll try again next time I’m at the store.

I first rescued a male vieled that i figured out could not target properly wirh his tongue. I never saw him eat unless it was a worm from a dish. i researched and learned veileds eat leafy stuff, fruit, and sometimes flowers. So i then researched every lettuce availabke at a supermarket and learned collard greens have the highest content of A. So i added it to his diet first day the bowl was empty. Yeah! So i suggest try adding a cleaned collard greens. Some breeders take a whole leaf and tie it to something and the little ones go at it. I find its easier to just make a salad! It might save you plants. you can also dust with calcium if needed.
