Does my new Veiled Chameleon look healthy?

Xanadu

New Member
Hi, this is my new Cham, Xanadu!
I got him a week ago, and so far he's been eating like a pig (other than a few days ago he stopped for 2 days) but now he's eating again, just not as much.
I've been giving him crickets, mealworms, and hornworms so far and he's drinking every time I mist the cage.
I dust his crickets 2 times a week with vitamin D3 (repticalcium).
His cage is 18x18x36 inches, i have a tree and fake vines and branches inside.
For lights I have a UVB, 50W halogen for heating and light, and at night I have a low 13W red night time light.

If theres anything else you want to know about him or my set up, lemme know :)

Here's a picture of him:

He looks good. Watch D3

I do agree with Camimom watch his D3 intake only once or twice a month. What I do is reptivite twice a month and D3 once a month Calcium Daily. Crickets as main course of food. Watch mealworms.. Make sure that you smash head.. Limit him from junk food..Lol:) Add Camouflage more foliage but other than that he looks good. I'm feeding Walter every day but as I realized he was picking up weight fast. So now I feed him three Adult crickets every-other day and one on the day without. I feel guilty...Lol As he gets older his diet regimen will change.Good luck... If you have any Questions theres always answers... Lol.... Here's my Baby Boy....He Loves the Camera

Cage

Thanks so much guys! Glad he looks good :) I'm having a bit of trouble finding things that will actually stay on the side of his cage... it's mesh. Here's a picture of the full thing. I work at Pet Smart at the moment and there's really nothing there other than things that would stick with suction cups to a glass cage, I've also looked at a couple other stores, but still nothing I could find. Any ideas on what I can get?

What a cutie :D love the name too! We have two baby chams at my work right now... SO adorable! Can't help but look at them whenever I walk by lol!

Hey, Xanadu. Looks like a nice beginner setup. I built my own cage but it's still screen and I wanted to have more vines & things up high for my cham. Finally I tried velcro strips on the upper frame and wrapped pieces around the vines and it worked really well. Some of the vines criss-cross the cage and others hang straight down along the screen sides so I can add other levels. Surprisingly the velcro is strong enough to hold but you can also use cable ties to reinforce places. He really likes the vines and there's lots of ways to change it up. Try that because it's pretty cheap and all you need is some scissors. Have fun.

invest in a hot glue gun and little disc rare earth magnets....you can stick anything to anything with them. Glue a magnet to the end of the vine or whatever and then attach it with a magnet on the other side of the screen. I use them for feeding cups and all manner of things. I use the small zip ties as well to attach vines to other branches and such.

+1

I just put a few branches up tonight. I use 2 mags on each end to help prevent the branches from turning.

About the general care, definently do what camimom said. I don't mean to bash on them, but please do not follow pet smarts guide to chameleon care, based on their chameleons for sale, they don't seem to know much. Not saying you do though, I understand it's how the owners are, your cage seems pretty good though, just get a bigger one and ditch the night bulb.

Oh trust me, I know they don't know much lol. There's only one woman I work with that has had 10+ years of experience with chameleons, so I tend to ask her things if I need it.

Also I will try and get out tonight to get some magnets and such, thanks for the ideas everyone. :)
