Does not want to leave the roof!

My ~8 week old male veiled cham recently discovered he can crawl around upside down from the screen top, so he has been crawling around up there almost every day for the last 4-5 days, and at night he comes down and sleeps in the trees in his tank.

Yesterday he crawled up there, and crawled around all day like normal, but never got down last night.

There is a 2" wide flat bar that goes across the top of this glass tank to support the lights, and he sometimes sat up there and hung out, but that is where he ended up sleeping last night.

When I woke up this morning I found him there, so I did my usual morning ritual (mist and feed) and left to do some stuff. I came back later this afternoon today and he was still up there, not on the bar but just crawling around, and tonight he is back up on the bar sleeping.

He has not got down off the top since yesterday morning, is this normal? Should I be worried that he is not using his plants or anything?

He is drinking, but i am not sure if he is eating or not, since he has been up there since yesterday. I saw him one day hang from has back feed upside down and get a cricket that way so I am assuming he probably ate like that today, but I have no idea..

Suggestions? Is this normal?

Babies are weird this way. I have had several young chameleons do this. Is he warm enough? Sometimes they do that to get nearer to light/heat.

Milo did that ALOT the first week and a half I had him. I was a little worried, but he seems fine, he doenst go up as often, but every now and then I still catch him hanging up there for a long time.

As long as he is still eating and getting a little water, he will be fine and I would not worry.

Are you still keeping him in that glass aquarium that everyone (except me) said was a suitable enclosure? My guess: It's too cool, too humid, too little surface area, not well-ventilated enough, not tall enough, and he wants out.

Flame away people... I don't care how many of you guys tell me I'm wrong, I still feel obliged to tell M1ndless what I personally think is the best way to keep a veiled, and I will continue to do so if for no other reason than I care about the health and "happiness" of his chameleon.

Thanks,

joe not everyone on this forum is out to get you! But your probably right, if hes spending most every hour of the day at the top i would assume its more of an environmental issue and the place that he feels most comfortable is the only side that isn't glass. I agree with Joe, i'd get him in a screen cage. Your going to have to do it anyway.

Really it's my fault. I only pip up with a comment when I disagree with what everyone else is saying. I mean, if it's already being said, then there's no need to repeat it, but if my opinion is different then I'll go ahead and make a post. As you would expect, I usually get lumped up pretty good :D

Still, I like it here... plenty of good folks.

here is what i did out of 1x2 (wood) aluminum screen and a staple gun
i call it a 50/50

im thinkin he is trying to get as far off the bottom of his cage as he can. and possably it may be to hot or humid in his cage. try him in a all screen cage and let us know what happens. good luck.

I noticed the humidity has been high the last few days with all the rain, it stayed at 80% humidity most of the day, and I only did light mistings for this reason.

I do not have money for a screen cage at the moment, but maybe I can throw something together, I have an old pop up hamper that might temp work for him?

He came down today, I think the problem was that he could not figure out how to get back down, I put a banch for him to get down, and he got down right away, he climbed up the digital temp guage wires to get to the roof, but I dont think he could figure out how to climb back down them, he seems really happy now that I got him down. :D
