Done Setting Up My Cage!

This what all those people who argue about drainage used to be like :) Thank you Thank you MCSEB for being so polite. Somtimes i need cheering up too.

It looks like you are eager to learn and so very open minded and excited.
The best chameleon keepers in the world can learn from you lol. That is part of why the forum is so good.

If I may ask, what do you mean by more gradients? Sorry for the stupid question.. Tomorrow I will install my thermometer/hygrometer. Thank you thank you I appreciate it!

By gradients I mean different levels of vines situated under your basking area so your Cham can sit 2 inches under his basking light, but if he gets too hot, he has the option to move down to 3, 4, or 5 inches below the same area so he can personally regulate his own body temperature. The gradients can also be a little to the right, or left of the basking spot. Any area where your Cham can decide to sit and still bask, depending on the heat required by him at the time. This is called thermoregulation and is important for a chameleon to have in his cage.

When ChamMom says gradients she is referring to "temperature gradient". This is best achieved by placing horizontal "walkways" underneath the basking spot at different heights. This gives your chameleon a choice of temperature, thus, a temperature gradient.

Okay cool I understand now thank you!

No problem! Yes I am eager and very open minded when it comes to chameleons. I think they're fascinating creatures.

Thank you! I appreciate it! Actually I was thinking about doing that because it does look way too bushy and crowded. Like I want to give him his little area where he could hide but I do want to see the cage too. I get what you mean. Thanks for the link I will definitely check it out! I haven't set up his dripper yet. I have it here but I will do it tomorrow. I'm thinking about putting the tube right where that big branch is at under the basking spot. Is that a good idea?

ya that works fine. just as long has he can reach it whenever he wants. should be perfect !

Yes I completely understand you. I didn't know what it was called but thank you for teaching me something new today :) I was actually a little concerned about that. Tomorrow when I get back from work I will continue working on my cage and I'll probably trim the plants just a little bit and add more branches so my chameleon could have more areas to explore. Thank you once again I really appreciate your help :)

So I'm finally done setting up my cage for now. I'm really excited and I'm happy the way it turned out. I have an umbrella plant and a pothos plant in an 18x18x36' cage. I have 5 branches in total in my cage. I know you could only see 3 but I put the other 2 in the middle of the cage just incase my little guy wants to hide. I'm planning on adding just a couple more very soon. I also wrapped the umbrella tree with a vine and the pothos too but just a little. Between tomorrow and Tuesday, I'll be receiving the rest of my things. I'm happy the way it's turning out and I hope my chameleon will like his new home too. What do you guys think? Remember this is my first set up ever haha.

yes it is thank you so much. i know it's not person but i tried and there's a few things i might try to fix tomorrow. i'm thinking about trimming the plants just a little and adding a food bowl and some more branches so my chameleon could walk around.

Hey I forgot to ask but did you wash those plans you have to be sure that you wash the pants very very well because most places you buy plants from have pesticides on them and if your chameleon eats it it could become very sick or die you have to wash the leaves all of them when I had real plans in my cage what I did was I took Dawn dishwashing soap mixed in with water and sprayed all the green on the plant and let it sit for about 2 minutes and then Thurleigh washed all the soap of the leaves and stems then I put new soil in the pot because most plants you buy from shops have chemicals in the dirt to make a plant grow better which is also bad for your chameleon just thought I would give you a little heads up

Damn actually thank you for reminding me. I have to do that. I completely forgot to do that. I also have to wash my branches just incase. They were in plastic bags but I want to be on the safe side. I heard if you bleach the branches that's the best thing to do. As for my plants I am going to trim them just a little bit and then I am going to wash them about 2 times each. I am also going to clean my cage just incase if anything happened and possibly change the soil too.

I wouldnt bleach them.....the bleach can soak up through the leaves and kill your plant or sit and kill your cham when it comes to me and my cham well because i spent 300 on him I would say your dish washing soap mixed with water and let it sit for a min or two thats the safest route and dont spray the roots with the soap. and the soil after you change it with just normal top soil put rocks on the inside covering all the dirt just in case you have a few loose crickets and he tries to eat them he might bring up some dirt with the crickets and he might get impacted. you dont have to do it step by step like i am telling you its just because i spent 300 on mine i dont wanna see that wasted you know. actually just now i caught my cham chewing on the stick in his cage eating little bits of bark off the branch. i moved him and immediately cut that branch so he wouldnt do that again. im just a cautious cham owner haha :D:eek::D:eek:

Ok that makes sense. I'll just handwash it with soap and hot water then. Don't worry, everyone is very cautious with their cham. When I get mine I will be too haha.

Hey Seb, looks great to me......not long till he arrives!......Are you still calling him Reptar?:D
