done w/ crickets for now!!!

fed off the last of the crickets today. cleaned the cricket bin and put the nympy roaches in there. nice :D:D:D:D

How are you housing them?
what are you feeding them?
How old were they when you bought them?
and who did you buy them from?

I can keep 2000 crickets and only have a few die from old age.

ive yet to buy crickets for a year, and have only found a few dead, have no smell, and have been using bug burger with the other stuff, couldnt be easier..also have yet to ever get any bad smells as well (want no noise from them, feed off males first)

yowsers! no $$$ spent on crickets for a year!!!! that's awesome. i thought about breeding crix but just didn't follow through. breeding dubias is much easier...you don't have to do anything!!!! ;););););)

thats how i feel about the crickets!! LOL..i hardly do anything and they just keep comming..i have like 2000 just chillen, and in the laying bin (for crickets) theres about 3000 pinheads growing up..

i just cant do the roaches, i feed some to my chams but its just gross, if i bred them i just would have no excuses to tell anyone..just here, look, i breed disgusting roaches, come hang out at my house...LOL:D:D:D:D

so i buy a few at a time:p

LOL! you should see the way wife looks at me when i tell her, "look honey, baby roaches!" she's thoroughly disgusted by them.

i just keep my roaches or "beatles" as they are refered to in my house a secret from most people, lol but the cricket chirps give themselves away.
the roaches definalty are easier but the chams seem to like crickets better, so ill just be keeping both i guess

hoj,
do you breed your own crickets too?

See I'm in the same boat I'm doing everything right with these crickets but I'm wasting a 100 dollars plus a month on crickets because of dying :( I want to do roaches but I have no idea how to take care of them like what do they eat, drink, do they need heat do I have to dust them???? :( so many questions haha and where is a good place to buy them at???

it's so easy. you do the same thing w/ dubias as crickets, enclosure, gutload, dusting, etc. the only thing different is you need a heat pad to put under the enclosure. i bought mine from walmart for $10.

you can buy them from the sponsors on here and i've also seen great prices for them in the food classifieds on here and fauna.

And they don't die as easily???? And I can still feed them like bug burger and etc and everything then they have the water crystals???

die off

Well I bought 1000 a few weeks ago and had the same problem. Spoke with the dealer and he advised me I realy need to up the temp, and to also be very diligent about cleaning out any that died, which is something I didn't do the first 1000. I took his advice and for my second batch, hardly any of them have died off. He explained that if you don't clean out the dead bodies they release ammonia or some chemical which in turn causes more to die. So far so good.

Looking into them right now :) only one last question when they reproduce do I have to move the babies into another bin or anything????

nope...you can keep them in the same bin. i had a bin for my crickets and my roaches. since i got rid of my crickets, i'm using my second bin for just the nymphs. makes it a little easier to find the nympys but not necessary.
