Hi all, my cham acts weird when his uvb is on. He used to love his basking spot and spend most of his time there. I've recently done a shift around and his uvb tube is closer to him as a result, since then he's been closing his eyes, spends alot of time on the other side of his home away from the lights which he never used to do, the tube is a repti glo 5.0 exo terra 15w and is now 9 inches away from his basking spot, before it was just under twelve which i was a little worried about, but he seemed alot happier then. Basking spot is 85-87, over all temp is 70-75, humidity 60-90 depending on last spray. Hes a ambanja panther about 4-5 months old, pooping everyday with white urine and eating well, im supplementing as i should. Ive done some research and read about the uvb lights that create problems resulting in reptiles closing there eyes etc but the light im using is the right one? Anyone else noticed this or got any ideas or comments i would appreciate it.

If the bulb is a coil bulb that will be the problem. They can damage eyes. You need a long tube uv bulb and thsi should sort the problem. many people now think the coil bulb are safe but i dont agree! I cant see why anyone would use them anyway .

I have a carpet who actually dislikes his LINEAR tube style repti glo 5.0.

I just mentioned this in another thread today actually. It doesn't seem to effect eyes. He just gets far away wants out and turns black. The instant its flipped off he's bright green and goes back to the top in content mode. So the Linear , CFL thing isn't always a factor. I know Im figuring the many variables with my chameleons effect. One thing I know it hated the UVB light that other chameleons I have tolerate. Just to put that out there.

Does anyone think it could be the reflector im using, heres a pic

Heres the setup, basking spot is in back corner

Heres Victor doing his usual :)

cheers

Is the reflector shiny metal? Or white? I would use a white reflector, if its shiny he may just be freaked by the glare...

OK.... Lets do a review.... You had your spot at 12"s... Everything cool.:) Now its at 9"s.... Now , not cool!..... Move it back;)

Got a Solar meter?...... I believe the guy from "Light your Reptiles" said he is now or soon going to rent them out;)

PS..... AWSOME cage!

what are you basing this statement on? the last batch of faulty coil bulbs were a long time ago....

based on your description though its probably too strong, i'd just move it back and see what he does?
