Flukers bend a branch is supposed to be safe for artificial vines. Other than that most use sticks from outside washed from non sappy hardwood trees.

I have a hibiscus tree outside but the branches r kinda flakey. Scared my lil guy is gonna get a splinter

Ah, maybe can you sand them with a fine sandpaper or a firm brush during cleaning? I’m not familiar with the hibiscus trees but I know they love the hibiscus plants in their enclosure.

I use branches I find in my backyard.

I do as well, we have a variety. I used to chuck them in the woods when broke off but not anymore. They get examined first for usability.
