Drainage for Aluminium Screen Enclosure

Hi all. In preparation for my new enclosure which will be a 24x24x48 aluminium screen enclosure, I need to find out what I will do about drainage etc.

A couple things I would like to mention though:

• I'm spending £155 on it so I wont be even thinking of drilling wholes in the bottom.
• It's going to be sat on one of these - http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/n...efview=lister&ts=1217788402522&isSearch=false

Any ideas are welcome. Please don't make it to complicated though! lol.

I find that when you have a heavy plant in the center of the cage the bottom will bow. Drill some holes in the center and then prop up an edge of the pot so water can get under.

Seriously, does it matter what you paid for it if it doesn't serve your purpose? The bottoms of most screen cages are PVC plastic so that it is easy for you to drill holes in the bottom. I dremel a 1 inch opening or so into it... install a screen sink drain from wal-mart, and put a bucket underneath. Put the plant on some kind of stand that holds it an inch or so over the drain, but lets water through.. the plant weight will bow the pvc enough to get things to drain to the middle.

I too put a small sink drain in the bottom of both my cages and it drains into two 5 galon buckets that i empty once a week

Aight, here are some pics of my drainage. I drill the holes, let the water drip down onto the tarp and gravity draws it to my bucket.

Your idea seems sooo complecated. I don't see why you need the shower curtain thing. Surely you could just chuck a big tub under there or something?

I didn't want to drill holes in to my viv either just to draing thing out but I did put together a drain like this.

I plan to get more pvc to duct the water some where, but I just haven't figure out the final place for my cage yet...

Yeah I remember seeing that thread before I liked the idea. I was thinking of doing something like that but i was thinking of using like a rack of some sort to hold the plants up inside the enclosure then i was thinking hmm ok this will give my cham less room if you think about it as the plants will be rose up higher etc.

yea i got in with this bloke i gave him measurments and he never gt bak to me do need a new cage but he didnt reply.and he quite costy eh have u gt cage yet?

Yeah my one he said he wont be able to do for a few weeks. He's well busy atm. I aint got it yet.
