my order of 500 crickets came the other day for my bearded dragon, moved them from the bag into there box, feeling really pleased with myself since it was the first time i managed to move them into the box without any escaping. i turn around and knock the box on the floor, gutted!! around 50 escaped, i had to quickly grab the hover and hover them up. not amused, i just got a kitten so she will have fun catching any that managed to get away from the hover.

LOL that sucks, i hope that i dont do that in the future, my girlfriend would kill me. But i think dubias would be worse if they escaped

Wait till the survivors start singing all night from behind and beneath the fridge and stove!

That's the best part!

:D

OMG! That reminds me when I got my very first order of 500 and did not know what I was really doing. I had a ten gallon tank with only three sides(one busted) and I thought I would "save money" and tape a peice of carboard to the back. Well, we are talking 1/4 cricks here and when I put them in the cage and went out and came back home there was like 10 in the tank!!!! They had scaled the cardboard and found a gap and climbed out! Thanks god it was on my patio and also they did not make any noise yet. If they were in my house I think I woulda freaked out!!!! Even though it was my patio we open and close the sliding door all day and I was finding them everywhere, even in my son's bed! Gross!

:eek::D
I feel your pain! I did the same thing yesterday only I had a small bag of 40! Unfortunately mine were singing away under the freezer in the laundry room!!!!

Well, the wild geckos and anoles that live in and around the house will have a nice little free snack! ugghhh....

Some of the sticky pad traps, behind and under things where your cat will not be able to walk on them, may help quite a bit.

Put these near warm appliances... they tend to migrate to warm areas of the home. I have a sub-woofer speaker for my computer that is always on and I always find a bunch of escapees under it.

That's my nightmare!!
I recently switched from Crix to Dubias. Im always paranoid of escapees since i live in an apartment..
Dubias are a bit easier to keep and handle but im traumatized by crickets.. My downstairs neighbors kept finding them in their apartment haha..
No escapees so far with the Dubias

I only buy boxes of 1000...and I've dropped one a couple of times...or missed the container when I turned the box upside down to dump it...so I know exactly how much "fun" it can be!

Meee tooo!

Yes, I am new to all this and I made my very own "Cricket Keeper" Big plastic tub was really proud of myself cut openings in all 4 sides & top covered with screen for ventilation... got em put em in the next morning they are sitting outside the bin enjoying themselves! Apparently the top that snaps on must not be cricket proof! Crap!
:eek:
