Should there be food available 24/7? I put some food in with the crickets last night and its almost gone ... I usually just feed them at night before I go to bed.

Thanks.

Jason

ideally you should feed in the mornings and remove whatever wasn't eaten at night. some feeders (especially crickets) have been known to chew on chams while their sleeping

Also, you want to give your cham time to digest his food while basking and getting uvb which he will not be doing at night. Feeding at night is a no no!!!

LOL - I didnt phrase the question correctly:

Should food be available to the feeders 24/7?

ooohhh lol. from what i've heard it's best to gutload a few hours before they're feed off. the less time the gutload spends inside the feeder the better since the feeder will digest and pass it off as waste before your chameleon can.

If you keep them gutloaded 24/7 you don't have to worry about what's in their bellies.

lol! That makes a big difference!!! I just remove and change out the food when it looks yuky which is basically everyday. I found my crickets and supers seem to eat more at night anyways.

Looking back...you phrased it right and we read it wrong!! funny we both read it the wrong way!!! I guess I was half asleep when I read it!!!!

I do the same, i throw in a bunch of food, and then when its either really dry or looks like its going to mold soon i take it out and replace it with fresh food.

Proper gutloading

proper gutloading is done by feeding the feeders a proper nutrious diet thoughout their life. Not just giving vitamins a day or two before feeding off. Vitamins are used to supplement inefficient diets. While vitamins are better than not in such cases they are not equal to or superior to complete diets. Food should always be available. 24/7 especially if wanting to have them breed. We are the only ones in the USA to sell Blaptica dubia exclusively in bulk. So production and health is of paramount importance. Also hello out there to those who have asked about me in particular. We are around an have never gone away. Just not here. Nick how are the green banana roaches doing?
