Texas Panther Man

I bought a colony from a sponsor on here. I got 100 adults for like 39 bucks. So I went out and got a rubber made bucket at wally world. Can I just cut one vent hole in the top? I know I need to screen it. I live in Texas if I put them in my garage can I just use a heating pad set on low and put them in a pantry. Our temps here are rising now. Also where can I get the egg crate for them to live on? I gut load them like i do crix also?

Sorry I don’t know much about keeping good housing for a colony. I would go to your nearest pet supply store and see how maybe they have there’s set up. I found this web site for you if you cant find egg cartons www.eggcartons.com

Yes yo gutload them the same. Also if you dont want to buy some egg flats you can go to restraunts and ask for them they just throw them out.

Thanks for the ideas on the egg crates. I can't eat that many eggs. lol Do you thinnk just one hole cut in the lid is enuff ventilation. Also is a reg old heating pad ok? Im kinda scared of burning my house down. lol

I bought an egg holder from the camping section at walmart, and bought a dozen eggs...put them in the plastic egg container, job done! I just keep the lid off of mine, they don't climb at all. I need to get a heat pad, but for now, i just swap my heat lamp from Whomi's cage over to the roaches at night.

Yeah i just really don't want a big box of roaches in the house. lol I'm going to try keeping em in my garage. I have some cabinets and I think I can keep em warm enuff. I just wondered what yall use to keep em warm.

I have a under tank heater to keep them warm, but mine are inside they really are the cleanest feeders i have ever had.

Use a red light basking bulb or a heat mat for heat. But I'd just use the heat mat and put it under their cage.

i have about a 3x6" hole cut in the center of the top and one in each end about 2/3 of the way up, more ventilation means less smell and other problems, i use a small heat matunder the non food end, should be enough heat but if they are going to be in a garage you may want to use a second heat mat. heat mats are generally safer than bulbs, especially in close proximity to plastic, i would just use the second one on one side you want a tempuratur gradient just like in a cham cage jmo

A regular heat pad will work fine as long as it doesnt have an auto shut off. Almost all of the ones you buy now have like a 2 or 4 hour auto shut off but they need the heat all the time. Also keep it as dark as possible they need darkness.

Thanks for the info. I think i may keep em in a spare closet til mid of march. then i can move em out side. I want to get them reprodcing, so i think i can control he temps better inside til it gets in the 70's here.
