Dubia roaches

Hey everyone! I had a couple of questions on these guys !

1. What's it like to breed them ?

2. I've seen people use the term "cleaner crews" can anyone inform me on what those are ?

3. Crickets smell like death in its purest form and I don't want to use them as a staple anymore will Dubias work ?

4. Pros and cons of dubias?

5 if I were to breed them could I do it discreetly ? The two words "breed" and "roach" are greatly shunned upon when used together

Thank you all !

Low maintenance

CC eats the mold, dead roaches, etc.

Smells like fresh air when compared to crickets.

4. Pros and cons of dubias?

Cons? The bigger ones are fast

Put a rubbermaid in the closet and no one will ever know.

Crickets smell bad when kept in the wrong container and not cleaned well and cleaning then when it's just you and you don't have some sort of cleaner crew helping out is near impossible to keep up with what they need.

However I prefer dubias as an insect in general because crickets are actually much dirtier and more dangerous in various ways. Dubia males are more skittish for sure, and you definitely have to make sure you keep a safe amount of airflow but make sure no one can escape. Dubias can escape from open bins. And males do hover, though it's usually just during territorial battles. The roaches rarely actually want to leave on their own unless something is off with their enclosure. It can be as something as simple as being crowded or the males unable to find enough territories.

As for what I use as a clean crew I use the combo crew offered by Nick Barta on his new website fullthrottlefeeders, what I like is he doesn't have any heavy carnivorous beetles in his crew. He has ones that specialize in plants and grains and then he has one that prefers the dead but will also eat old fruits and veggies.

They need a heat source to successfully breed them at a good rate. Otherwise a generally good ratio of male to female roaches will keep everyone happy.

1. Easy, get a container, stack with eggcrates, throw in dubia, keep at around 28C., wait..... proffit!

2. They are small Beatles and they and their 'larvae' eat the dead.

3. My crickets don't smell a lot (probably because of the cleaners), dubia smell even less. Keep humidity low will also help.

4. Pros, they don't escape often, they can't reproduce at room temps, they don't make sounds, they don't smell, they are low maintenance.
4. Cons, they get to big for your cham at adult size and my chameleons don;t like em that much.

5. use a container that isn't transparent and tell noone, if you get caught use all the pros from point 4 or lie trough your teeth and tell em they are beetles!

This along with there was an unnoticed infestation in tje bin when i bought it, but then i found out they're great feeders. So i kept them.

But seriously pretty much what everyone else said, my cham likes orangehead roaches better than dubia, but they're both excellent staples. I see the cons as pretty much nonexistent, they dont really try to escape like andee said and with a slippy plastic bin there is no way they'll get out and infest. Super easy to deal with, my lowest maintenance feeders for sure. The only downside is the fact they're creepy roaches, but getting over a fear of them makes you a stronger person. I was terrified of them now i think they're pretty funny.

Thank you everyone so much you guys have been so much help! ill get a colony going as soon as possible ! any site sponsors you guys reccomend?

Personally i can recommend Nick barta (fullthrottlefeeders) he is awesome. Answered any question i had, and everything arrives alive and in great shape.
