Dumbest lizard I've ever had

Where did you get that I only feed wax and mealworms? He gets like 15 different insects
your husbandry look good! fo far it is possible than your chameleon is obese and this can be the cause of lot of the problems. Maybe you can start a new diet with him? i feed my pather with 2-3 prey every 3 day.. other than that he turn fat. What about that?
The eyes got a problem, maybe the eyes, maybe the sinus this is not an infection but this can affect lot of things. Keep us update if you choose the diet way ;)

I am going to try your idea for 2 weeks, he has enough fat to go a few days without eating. Also since I don't have an automatic mister I may be overcompensating and his environment is TOO moist on average, leading to some water retention in the thin skin of the eye area.
Anyone have actual data or time spent living in Northern Madagascar to comment on seasonal availability of insects? Wonder if they need a dry spell or a few weeks of food scarcity every year.
I always pictured it as nonstop insects 24/365.

Water retention from misting is not a thing. There is something up with his eyes as others have mentioned. I can guarantee you are not misting more than an automatic mister unless you're literally standing next to your cage all day hand misting lol. My Panthers eat 2-3x a week max.

Cool! It will take more than 2 week before you will see some results (I had the same problem with my melleri.. overfeeder puffy eye and bad tongue shot.m, it took a year before thing get back almost normal and I feed with 3 prey every 3 days (and melleri are big .. almost 560g) but I’m sure he can make it!! It’s time for 2019 fat resolution lol!;)

Thing is, I actually am misting sometimes like you say- got one of those ultra fine new style misters (I think Flairisol is the brand name)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01HNLVON0?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

Which empties almost a fog. I'll take pics after not misting for 2 days and you can see the difference.
Kinda like pruny fingers in the tub or pool, except obviously their skin doesn't prune, it swells.

My mister broke end of summer and I haven't been able to get to q reptile show since to replace it, I want a specific one that I have only seen at the show.

Luckily the show is this Sunday... White Plains NY if anyone is interested, one of the best around IMO.

This summer I will probably take him to a specialist vet, they are few and far between around here and with a young family the $300-400 estimated bill isn't something I am prioritizing (just don't with the criticism, I realize how passionate some of you are but he's far from neglected.)

I'm with you there. With all we do for our chams, sometimes there's not much more a vet can offer and it seems like wasted money. I don't suggest it, but for some issues I think it's okay to try things out before rushing to the vet. Wouldn't recommend that for serious problems obviously. Or for newcomers that don't have much experience with reptiles. Why would the vet cost 300-400 though? I have a good specialist here and a visit is like $80 or less(can't remember).
