our panther eats soil from time to time, we supplement him as required (i.e. calcium with and without D3 plus vitamins) and also give a variety of leaf greens, veggies and fruit to his feeders, but he still likes eating soil from time to time. We provided him with a planter with organic soil, without stones and other debris and that's his 'soil buffet' and I guess, as several other have mentioned above, in the wild, he would have ample opportunities to eat soil and dirt, so he should have the same opporunity in captivity.
