egg laying????

Can anyone tell me approximately how long it takes for a veiled to lay her eggs??? Mine has been in her tunnel for 7 hours as far as I can tell.... I am getting a little worried as this is her first time as well as mine....

Mine spent a good 24 hours in her tunnel before she was done. Some may take several days, but as long as she's still working on her hole you are good. It's when she stops, still looks inflated, and starts looking lethargic and ill that you want to take her to the vet. But if she's working, then let her be.

Remember not to let her see you watching her! If you interupt her enough times she may give up on the hole altogether.

how long

years ago when i breed veiled chams.. my femalw actually stayed in her sand hole for 14 hrs.. before she layed a single egg.. that was also my largest clutch.. which was 96 eggs.. 3/4 of them made it.. just fine..

Thanks, I was getting worried as I haven't seen her since around 1:30 and she has just been staying in the tunnel, the tunnel hasn't collapsed as the sand on top is still the same but I don't hear anything. I am assuming she will come out on her own.... how long is it safe to say she will do that???? Is there a time frame where I should dig her out???? I am very new to this- only had her since Saturday... Today I woke up and she is still in her tunnel... So I just misted her cage enclosure as usual and walked away...

If you can't hear anything and know that the hole hasn't caved in then she is most likely laying. It took Amy approx 12.5 hours to carry out the whole process.

I am very happy to report that Lola has layed 53 eggs and is resting comfortably- she won't eat yet but has drank some water off her leaves. Thank you to everyone for the advice... You kept me sane, and from making horrible mistakes ( like checking on her to ease my worried mind) I now know what my hubby went through waiting for me to have our kids- nervous, excited, and very anxious!!!! Thanks again!!! P.S. the guy I bought her from said he thought she might be gravid, he didn't say anything about having bred her, is there anyway to tell if the eggs are fertile????

Fertile eggs are usually a little bit larger and whiter than infertiles. Amys were infertile and quite small (just a bit bigger than baked beans, lol) and were rather creamy/yellow in colour. Here's a pic of them so you can compare:

Congrats! I'm glad she's done with the whole process. Both of you must be so relieved!

Yea, infertile eggs look a little yellowish, like the ones in the photo.

Keep trying to feed her. She should eat immediately after laying or there might be a problem. If she doesn't eat real soon I would recommend a vet visit.

I am happy to report she is eating quite well and drinking tons.... poor thing looks soooo skinny now. Won't take long to get back to normal though with the way she is eating!!!! Thanks for all the advice and words of encouragement. That was the first time I have gone through that and it was nerve racking!!
