Eggflats for roaches and crickets?

Good morning...
I was wondering where everyone buys their egg flats from. We don't eat eggs in the house hold so I dont have many egg flats for my bugs.

Also I'm looking into a really good gut load. Right now I'm using a mixture of a fresh gutload of mustand leaves, Collard greens, carrots, apples, and orange slices. I'm using cat food which I'm aware of that shouldn't be fed to the cham due to high amounts of protien. Today will be the last day to get it out of their system. But I'm looking into a good dry gutload, and a good place to buy the ingredients.

You can buy egg flats online. But have you tried going to a local bakery, or a school/business/hospital cafeteria and asking if they have any to get rid of for free?

Good that you're dropping the cat food. Too much protein, fat, vitamin A....
This is what I do for dry gutload (it doesn't stay exactly the same every time, and you don't necessarily need all of the ingredients - choose ingredients to compliment your wet gutload):

I get my egg flats from the wholesale places and the supermarket. You can get the ingredients for Sandra's dry gutload at a healthfood shop :)

yikes don't go to a health food shop or you'll pay 10 times what the stuff is worth! LOL
look for places that sell bulk food for horses, chickens, sheep, and look online.

:/ In Shetland there is only a healthfood shop lol! Or Holland and Barret online but that's just as pricey :) My gutlaod is worth hundreds lolol! But the supply has lasted well over a year so I'm not complaining :)
 
In Aberdeen too. Online postage is a nono. Health food shop is the only place. It lasts for ages. My bugs eat better than we do.:)
 
Have you tried any reptile shows? Usually someone has egg crates at them. I get the 12x12" ones (like 6x5 eggs). I can get 100 for $15. But I doubt you will find them for that price. But should be cheaper than online for sure.
 
No need to pay for them. Go to your nearest breakfast restaurant. Look out by the dumpster. If you don't see any, go in and ask. :cool:

Although a great alternative, free, I've read is best to buy them fresh spanking new, due to the salmonella risk.

Yes, one of the reasons why I only buy from Rick, at Reptile Realms. Best deal I've found. I purchased a dozen from him, brand new.

As for my crickets I bought about 1200 from him last Saturday. all crickets healthy.

I use Repashy superload which I also buy in one single shipping charge. Five bucks or so.

I trust and value your experience. Wherever I read that about the salmonella may be just hype. I was using recycled as well without a worry. Until I cMe across that info. Decided just to get them new. Glad to read you Mike
