eggs-- 6 months old and shriveling?

So i'm a little baffled-- I have had these eggs for 6 months now.. and there are a few that have started to sweat/shrivel up.. then nothing.

I had one do this a month ago, and when i cut it open there was a small embryo growing in the egg. So I assume the rest would be fertile as well?

What could be causing them to shrivel? I have them incubating at room temps-- closed container with 2 small 1/4 inch holes drilled in them. Used hatch-rite.

Any thoughts? I have separated the ones that shriveled to another container.

Have you been weighing your containers and making sure that the media stays the same ratio? Of water to media.

either they need a lil more moisture or they are about to emerge..if they where sweating thats a sure sign that they will be emerging very soon!! at what temps have they been going??:D

you should be excited!!!

can you tell if they are fertile?

is there a way to determine if they are fertile or is it a game of chance? what will happen if they are not fertile or alive?

they have been going at about 71 degrees...

i would be super excited, but it doesn't seem like they are hatching.. just... shriveling. :/ especially since this happened once last month.

and its not all, only 5 of them...

i would be super excited.. if i wasn't more worried.

I've got eggs that were laid on Sept 2nd that appear to be sweating as well. I did see one shriveler but the others seem ok. I guess we should both hope for some good clutches!

These are from august 1st--7 months. why'd i type 6?

Either way... I hope they are shriveling for the right reasons this time!

comon babies. you can do it!

usually after about 2-3 weeks in perfect incubation humidity and temperature they will mold and shrivel if not fertile..after months and months, im pretty sure they are fertile..just depends on what ones are the strong ones..

so-- a little more backstory--

i have been gone for about a week and so I hadn't had a chance to check them. The person watching my chams said the eggs looked fine a few days ago--

I opened 3 of the 5 that were really shriveled.. and they all contained very underdeveloped embryos. (chams the size of brine shrimp)... which in case your wondering, they mostly are eyes at this stage. Seriously, two big eyes and a itty bitty body.

Not sure what happened to set off an early hatch. They have been separated, so hopefully the rest will go to full term. I can' only hope :(
