Emergency

Courtney, so sorry your boy had a rough night and you did also, don't think that will kill him, I have waken Picasso up a time or two and he just settled back down and went back to sleep, he will be just fine.......Those are the same storms that roared through here last night, it was very scary....sending prayers that everything is OK with you and your family.

phew! glad its all calmed down.
how stressfull that must have been for all of you!
Yes, it would be good to have a small emergency travel cage to have in your basement or to take with you if you have to leave fast. Cant hurt to have a pair of sturdy gloves to put on if you need to grab the chameleon fast, or a towel to put over him. I keep boxes handy for emergency travel (as well as some bird cages) - once they are in the dark box they usually settle fairly fast.

Yes I am so glad that was over!! Didn't sleep a wink after though!! I am looking into it now. I might just use a pet smart box. And I think I'll get some gloves too!! There are teeth marks in my fingers!! Lol

Oh goodness, I am sure that was stressful, glad all is well and hope the morning brings you a happier Cham :)

Yes it was. Thanks:) my poor baby. He was all frazzled, but he doesn't hate me! Came right up to me as always and grabbed the finger he bit. So I think we're good:) lol

Thanks:) me too!! He seems fine this morning. There was no calming him down last night though! He was out for blood. Poor baby had the same reaction I did lol. Thank you for the prayers. I am sending some for you as well.:)

Me too!! The little booger left a bruise on my finger though!! Lol oh well he apologized and hung out with me today so now I'm getting an emergency action plan together!!

I keep packing supplys on hand..You should order a shipping kit, so when you have an emerengcy you can put him in a reptile bag, then put him the insulated box and go!! much like keeping a dog crate for your dog

That's a really good idea!! How much do they cost and were can I get one?

Last night was just awful!! Poor thing was so stressed and man! I had no idea they're jaws were so strong!!! Lol.

How do you go about taking them out of the cage without losing fingers/giving him a heart attack??

every cham is different in what it will tolerate or react to.
best advise is to always move slowly.
never grab or lift from above, always hold / support from underneath / feet.

some people will hold one hand steady in front of the cham and coax with the other hand behind.
some people will have a stick that is removeable from the cage.

but if its an emergency, you can just toss a hand towel over the cham, wrap quickly and put it in a box. or use gloves. or both!

He usually come out on his own:) but last night I ambushed him. Come to think of it I went from above instead of below... I'll keep a hand towel on top of his cage until I get his emergency box. Wrap him up like a taco and hold him close to my chest like I used to with Pascal. I think I'll go to petsmart tomorrow and get a to go pet box.

Like Sandra said allways handle them from below....It was exsplained to me the preditors like bird will atack them from above. You can get a shipping kit from lllreptile If a winter one it will come with a 40hr warm pack, reptile bag and a insulated box.

Yeah, I usually do. But everything was just so crazy. I wasn't even really awake yet. My mom was screaming and all the phones were shouting their alarm things and it sounded like my house was gonna blow over.
I'll have to look into the box thing tho. My mom had an idea of getting a little cage and just having him sleep in there on severe weather nights that way I can just grab n go and not have to wake him.
