Enclosure Shelving

Hi everyone!

As my collection keeps on growing I’m in need of a shelve or rack to place my enclosures.

Currently I’m looking into this one (click here) but it’s kinda pricy for me. I need to put my 2’x2’x4’ cages and I have 4 of them (3 in use) and looking to fill the 4th. Currently I think it will only fit 2 enclosures per shelving unit due to the fact that I will also include in there the lighting, misting and draining systems. Any suggestions on a shelve that won’t break my bank? I’m open to either metal or plastic as long as I have a way put in a draining system in place.

Thanks and stay safe!

These might work and they already have lights with them...just replace one tube with the UVB and add a basking light and replace the tray wi a sheet of wood ...if you need to...(I used something similar for baby cages and they worked great)...

This is just an example....they make other ones that won't cost that much...I just didn't have time to look.

I use wire shelving racks like this: https://www.amazon.com/Seville-Clas...helf+unit&qid=1585710817&s=home-garden&sr=1-2

It was a struggle for me, too, to find a suitable stand for my cham enclosures because a lot of "48" inch wide wire shelving racks aren't actually 48 inches. They're just under an inch short of 48 inches.

With the rack I linked you would probably have to find a way to balance the cage properly. Whether that's creating a wood stand or mounting the cage to the stand, you're going to have to make up for the depth of the rack.If you want to, you could always get one unit, divide it into two parts and use both halves under the cham cage. This is possible because each of the poles that hold the shelves are actually two pieces. So you can essentially make two 14"Dx30"Hx30"W shelving units. You could then used some metal picture grids, swag hooks and rope hangers to suspend the lights above my cage.
Here's a blog about suspending the lights: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blo...ght-platforms-diy-instructions-included.2428/

If you aren't a fan of the racks, there's actually a product that is very hard to find that might work. This is the Reptibreeze enclosure stand by ZooMed. They're specifically designed for the 2x2x4 enclosures. Same price as the rack I linked. Problem will be having to hang your lights unless you are okay with them being directly on top of the enclosures. https://www.lllreptile.com/products/35061-zoo-med-reptibreeze-stand-with-shelf-xlarge

Don't know what your drain method is, but I'm sure you could drill into the stand if necessary.

So, don't know if any of that's breaking the bank for you. I don't know what your budget is. If it's too much then I'd consider making some racks with some 2x4's and plywood and paint them if you want. Hope some of this helps.

Make one from wood. Screen Cages are light, so it won't be too hard.

That's why that rack you linked cost so much. It seems expensive, until you realize each shelf holds 1500lbs a piece. That's why it's expensive, it's heavy duty steel. I was looking at the 77inch of that, they weigh like 200 lbs the shelf alone.

Depending how long of shelf you want, 1x2 framing added to a plywood bookcase design is likely fine. Again screen is light. You could add 2x2s if your really worried

I would break the project in half. Build 2 sets of 48 shelves, not 1 96, doing the latter weakens the shelves, alot, you could build the 96, and run feet down every 24 inches for a very would shelf, if you don't plan for cages down there.
