Hello everyone, my male panther chameleon is getting older and closer to becoming full sized, in the next month i would like to get a nice tree for inside the cage since stores around me will have them since it’s warmer out. Anyone have recommendations for a good sized plant to go inside? I have also been having the problem with plants slowly dying in my cage I think from being overwatered by my misting system. I left the plants in the pots i got them from the shop in and my girlfriend said i should get one of those orange clay pots she uses to keep her plants in but i wanted to double check with everyone on here if they thought that was a good idea before i go buy large ones

Good plants are golden pothos totem, hibiscus, certain types of palms, and ficus tree. However a hibiscus needs a very strong plant light. @Beman can help you find a good plant light if you decide to go that route. Do you have a plant light? You should always repot the plants, change the soil, and cover the top with river rocks to avoid that chance of the chameleon eating the soil and becoming impacted. A clay pot is pretty heavy, not that it really matters but a plastic pot works fine with my hibiscus and pothos plants.

Yeah more then likely dying off due to lack of proper lighting. Some people use LED lighting. I like the arcadia jungle dawn led bars. Then there are 6500 daylight bulbs... These go in T5 fixtures. I run 2 of these on my cage and of course my t5 UVB as well.

These will last longer and use less energy.

Any of the centerpiece plants. Take a tape measure with you. Try to find plants between 3'-3½' (36"-42") tall. These will allow space between the UVB and treetop, and room for some growth.

IME, the pots they came in are fine unless they are too small. You need to identify each plant species, and learn about its care & requirements (pot, soil, light, water, etc.)

It'd easier to assess things with pics of the enclosure, from top (lighting) to bottom (substrate/drainage).

If the problem is overwatering, you can try river pebbles on top of the soil in the pots to serve as a watershed, or reducing the length of misting sessions.

If the problem is lighting, IMO the best plant light available for a 2'x2'x4' enclosure is this one.
