The color of the Eurycantha calcarata Australian Stick insect is light green at hatching. With each progressive molt, the green becomes brighter with brown alternating bands. As the nymphs reach about 4-inches, the brown begins to become more dominant, and as the nymph becomes adult they are a dark chocolate brown.
E. calcarata is one of the heavier stick insects in the world and puts on quite a color display. A care sheet is on my webpage, www.fullthrottlefeeders.com, on the Home Page under the "Stick and Leaf Care Sheets" section. This is one of the few stick insects that can live on Ivy, so it is easy to keep.
