Thanks! Just call me Eliza...it's easier (and, one man I've known online for 13 years spells it Elisa...I still answer).

So, this poster seems to have concerns on how to count feeders. Is it fair to say that any feeder, regardless of species, that is comfortably less than the width of between the eyes (but not obviously half as wide or less) counts as 1 and that if you are using smaller feeders (which is okay) you should count them as 1/2? I'm not suggesting that as hard math, but as a general guide.

And, again...smaller feeders are okay, and preferable to "too large". Right?

Also....as long as food is going in and poop is looking good and being produced, it's not a crisis if slightly less or slightly more is given for short (like a few days) periods.

I think it really depends on the feeder. I also think it's Reasonable to go off that so long as they actually look like it's 1/2 of the bigger one. I mean, a huge fatty 4 inch hornworm is more than twice the size of a 2 inch one... The width of the wormies is different too, so two 2 inch worms wouldn't equal one 4 inch worm?

That's why I was suggesting looking at width, not length.

..and, it's just more of a guideline, really...

I see what you're saying, but the length counts too. that 4 incher might be 5/8 inch wide, but the two inch one might only be 3/8 inches wide, but it still isn't equal to half... (these may or may not be accurate for hornworms... I can't remember) Ugh, bugs are confusing.

I think it's safe to say, logic would be your best bet when calculating how many of what equals what with these darned bugs!

well...mine are so small that nothing 4 inches long is getting in their cages, so maybe my ideas are limited.

Heck, one of mine is barely 4 inches nose to vent and she's an adult (sold as Rudis...I understand there is some concern whether the label is true).

I think "eyeball it, use your best judgement and know that it's not important to be precise" is probably good general advice. Does that sound okay?
