Excited

I just got my first cham (panther) and he/she looks great, they are truly amazing creatures!!! I have been reading around the site and have gotten loads of info and just wanted to share my excitement! I am also thinking on building my own cage, are there special materials that i should use?

P.S.
Ill try to post pics tomorrow didnt take any today.

From my experiences it is much easier to buy screen cages rather than building them. If you use wood then you can get into issues with moisture even if you seal them. You can use PVC and larger mesh but then you cannot use free roaming feeders. Or you can buy all the stuff needed to build a screen cage from home depot in the screen door section, but it can be difficult to get the tension right.

That is just my feelings though I do know a lot of people that have made their own and I am sure you will get some good responses. Good luck and congrats on the new chameleon! :)

Congratulations on your new addition. What kind (locale) of panther did you get? And where did you get it from? Panthers are awesome!

congratulations. i too recommend buying a cage, but then again my cricket cages look like bad vacation bible school projects so i couldn't imagine what it would look like if i tried to build a chameleon cage

its easier then you think
home depot sells the screen and window frame supplies that you use to build the cages. and the elbow joints.

its more of a matter of being able to install the screen into the frame which iseasy.

and then to screw/meausre out each piece i think i priced out building a huge enclosure for about 65 bucks.. 60"x 40" x40"

Ok so it looks like ill just keep buyin my cages, also another thing...i noticed my habba mist just "misted" (yes i kno not to use as a mister just a dripper, i also mist with a spray bottle) and the lights are off, should i turn them back on to dry up the water or should it be good for now?

Dont know what type it is but here are some quick pics i took, a bit blurry i know but ill take more again tomorrow.

i sure hope that isnt an exoterra you got there.
for a new owner i wouldnt build your own, its way easier to buy one and then get used to what you need. then do alot of research in the enclosure section and find out what you need to do then take your time building a good one.

Just to be contrary, I love my home built cages. I have no water issues despite wood being the primary material. But starting with a storebought cage is not a bad idea.
