Exposure Therapy: You Guys were Right!

Dubia ROCK!

I was terrified, I had a bad experience with an adult male a few months ago so I was repulsed by them.

But yesterday Chuck G. provided me with some exposure therapy:) I met him at the Reading Expo, and he took me to a guy who had a zillion dubia. They both answered my questions, tried to get me to touch one (fail), and even got me to smell them to compare to the stench of crickets (not even close, they kind of smell good).

Chuck's presence influenced the guy to give me a good deal on a starter colony, I came home and set up my "Roach Casa", and this morning I TOUCHED them!!! An adult male crawled on my hand and I didn't scream, I just gently told me to please refrain from putting his hands on me again.

The ultimate success..... I fed some to ALL THREE of my panthers and they LOVED them. The beast ambanja that Chuck sold me has an insatiable appetite, I had to limit him to 4.

So to all of you who fear the roach, you really need to give it a fair try. They are so much better than crickets in every way. They are kinda cute actually.

Thanks Chuck. Now if someone can help me with my fear of wasps and sharks.......

Ha! U are on ur own with the wasps! Glad that you made the jump into the 21st century with the dubs!

Haha, I have a starter colony and I'm going through some exposure therapy right now because I really do want to use them but I just can't bring myself to touch, or much less get near them, I hope someday I'll get use to them.

Just do it. It's like jumping into a cold pool on a hot day. SO much better if you just jump in rather than going in inch by inch. It's a shock at first, but you get it over with quickly, and you get to enjoy it rather than fretting about what it will be like!

Wasps are stupid flies with push pins shoved up their butts, and sharks aren't actually real. BOOM! Done! :D

Haha but those waspish flies chase me with their ugly legs hanging down, they be like....."i'm going to get stuck in your hair and sting you in the neck, MMAAAAWWWHAAAAHAAA"! I'm pretty sure they are demons.

But thanks, I didn't know sharks were fake. Don't tell me the one from JAWS was a mechanical one!?!?!?;)

They might be demons actually. But they're pretty harmless demons that have never gotten stuck in MY hair. :p

And no, the shark from jaws was not mechanical. They just trained a dolphin to swim around and bite boats. Duh. :D

Glad you are making strides with the roaches! Great meeting you and your family. Keep me posted on your Ambanja.

Hummm maybe I should introduce them to Ken (my Hubby)
We have roaches and I have to deal with them as they bother him soooooo much. Even just looking at them sends chills all over him and his hair stands up on end. lmao.

Just bring them home!! Alot easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. ;)

You must learn the power of negotiation!

If you promise to give her half of the money you would save from not having to but crickets, she will say yes;)

I told my husband that from every clutch of panthers I breed, I will give him the $ from the sale of the first three. Prior to this "deal" he said no more reptiles. Now he is suddenly encouraging me to buy more!

I refused to touch them at first! But once you realize how much they love them it's not so bad!!
The little ones are easy.
Its the big ones that freak me out!
