Eye Boogers

hey everybody,
I've had my panther cham for around four months now, and I've never previously owned a chameleon. I think I'm doing alright with him but I was wondering, what are chameleon eye boogers? I've seen and heard about them, but I don't know exactly what they are. Where do they come from? are they infectious? Frostbite has not had any eye or skin problems, but I want to be prepared. please send any feedback what so ever!:)

That is not normal and it is possible that he has an infection and needs to see a vet with chameleon experience for an antibiotic. If you'd like us to check over your husbandry to see if anything you are doing could be causing eye problems please fill out the questions in the link below. If you don't already have a chameleon vet if you tell me where you live I'll try to recommend one.

No!No! My chameleon is not suffering from eye boogers, I've just seen and heard about them in other posts and want to know more about them, but thank you for the recommendations!

Hi MorganC25,

I only have a little experience with chameleons but no one is answering here so i dare to share my findings.
My panther was 6 months old when he first had this problem on the left eye. After quick treatment (shower+spraying a lot) and visiting vet 2 times (They did not give any medicines) it disappeared on its own.
About a week later we had to leave him for the weekend and on Sunday when we came back his right eye had problems again. There was no misting for 1.5 days :(
A wet q-tip and a heavy misting helped immediately. During all these problems he was always active, eating very well (except that he got addicted to supers and refusing crickets...) willing to come out and climb to highest point in the flat :)

An automatic mister is coming in 2 days so i hope all these things will be gone soon.
I have a humidity meter inside - around middle of the cage - and it goes up to 95% after misting and drops to 45% within a few hours. after the weekend it was down to 30%.
