i have a male panther. i cant get a picture because his eye is closed. i noticed that he closes it because it looks like he has an eye ( booger ) aka sleep like a dog or humans get. he can open it and see me but i think it is bothering him. does anyone have any suggestions on how to help him

thanks jeremy

hes never had a problem this just came up yesterday. he openes his eye but i can see that there is what looks to be a clear jelly looking thing in the corner of his eye hes not dehydrated and is still very active and eating but his eye is bothering him

what kind of uvb lighting you use?
please specify the brand and the type of the bulb.

i.e: Reptisun 5.0 Linear Fluorescent tube.

try a shower first (not you, but the chameleon, LOL). If this doesn't clear it up, a trip to the vet may be the best thing.

reptisun 5.0 linier i got him to open his eye for a sec. looks like a little bit of mucus of some sort

Eye advise.........

I would get to the vet too. In the interim give the cham a warm shower and use a moist Q-tip to GENTLY remove the goo from the corner of the eye. Touch the goo or skin and not the eye directly. Doing this now will also help because you will be able to tell the vet whether more goo comes back or not. This will help the vet gauge the degree of infection. Eye issues usually don't go away on their own. Chams like to rub their irratated eyes and make the situation worse. If you are going to the vet with this cham for the first time, take a fecal sample in and get it checked. It's a good opportunity to rule out any parasite issue whether it has anything to due with the eye or not. Let us know what happens....

yep, i tried that sight nothing close to me, at least the closest is 2 hrs. away and i am not able to take him that far. i am in the process of moving and i cant take off work. then on top of that the majority of vets are closed on the weekends.

waco texas, im not trying to not help him because i know hes uncomfortable i this is just a horrible time for this to happen. if there is somthing i can do until i can get him to a vet please let me know

In the meantime I would wash it out like Catherine said. Maybe a warm shower.... or mist with warm water.

ok well this is a stupid question but how do yall shower your chams ? i have never attempted this treatment.

My Veil has a lot of eye issues. He has some discharge that can glue his eyes together in the morning. I use eyewash that you get at the drugstore. I had him to Dr. Greek for a check up and he didn't seem to think anything was needed and thought what I was doing was fine.

I agree with the others although my guys just don't like showers. If he doesn't get some eyewash while you're looking into vets. Douse the eye and with a wet Q-tip gently wipe across the eye lids.

If that doesn't do it you can always use the go to eye ointment Terramiacin.
