Eye Problem?

Twice a month on either multi.

You have two option on feeding.

1) Gutload your supers very well.

2)Force feed (If you feel that you are capable).

To get him back to par again you have a couple options.

1.Gutload your supers with dark leafy greens, Sweet Potatoes , Butternut Squash etc 24 hours before feeding.. anything high in vitA. Dust with a multivitamin that has preformed VitA for 7-10 days (if you can get him to eat everyday). then put him back on a normal regiment.

If you were able to feed a cricket to him. You can gutload your crickets with a hard boiled egg, animal liver or dog food. The highest concentrations of preformed vitamin A are found in moose and walrus livers.

now this is the spot where it gets kinda ugly. only do this if you feel confident you can do this and understand that you can cause more harm if not done right.

2)if you have experience in syringe feeding. take 1.0 ml pedialyte and a pinch of reptivite. mix well and feed. Try this for a few days.

3)get some fish oil supplement. take a needle and pierce the gell capsule and dab it on a qtip. then lightly smear it on the back of a feeder. JUST ONE FEEDER! DONT DRENCH THE FEEDER!

I lightly dust my feeders about twice a week with calcium and the 1st and the 15th alternate Vitamin and Calcium w/D3. Once a week I give them feeders with a "trace" of Cod oil if that is any help.

Just to remind that he does not keeps the eye closed all the time. I see it sporadically during the day.

I have couple of praying mantises and stick bugs. He will go for them. I will dust with Herptivite couple of them and feed him. I will also let him drink pedialight with Herptivite. From today I will just give him the pedialight with Herptivite for couple of weeks or more to see if gets hungry enough to eat something else.

Does that sounds like a good plan?

please read my post's through. if you have been using herptivite and you still have a possible vitA issue. the statement below may pertain to you.

Furcifers may or may not absorb Beta Carotenes (Natural provitamin A) as efficiently as they would Preformed Vitamin A sources. The difference? Beta Carotene doesn't not build up to excessive (& Dangerous) amounts, whereas Preformed VitA can. So, it would be wise to also experiment with supplementing with a source like Reptivite.

I fed him two supers today dusted with Reptivite. I also mixed some reptivite in water and drop couple of drops in his mouth while he was eating worms.

Since, now I want to get him of the supers I will stop feeding him for a while. What about the VitA now? Should I mixed in water and let him drink while he is not eating? Also, how long does this treatment takes and what if he does not improve, when is it time to raise the alarm?

VitA delivery is done in two steps.
1:gutload. any veggies high in vitA 24 hours before feeding off the bug.
2:supplements. once he is back to normal i would use reptivite twice a month.

yes, i would mix in the supplements (small amounts, just pinch) into the water/pedialyte. while he is off of his food..a vet visit would be great if you can..now, depending on how long his issue has gone. they normally recover within a few days.

feeder options:
dubai roaches
silkworms - you basically get two bug in one here. so, if he doesnt like the silkworm. let the worm cocoon and turn into a moth. then try the moth.
hornworms
flies
butterflies

I don't want to jinx it, but looks like the eye is better now.

He got a little better yesterday, but for a good measure I gave him a stick bug laced with VitA. He ate the stick bug and 3 more crickets dusted with Herptivite. Today he kept the eye open all the time.

I also reduced the misting to 5 times from 8 times before. I am going to start getting him of the superworms.

Thanks for all your help.

I guess I spoke too soon. Now the right eye is closed most of the time. I keep giving him food laced with VitA and washing it with saline solution, but I do not see the improvement. The left eye is good now. I noticed that he rubs the right eye against the branches, so I am wondering if it is a VitA deficiency or something else.

Should I keep giving him VitA? Are there any ointment I can apply to the eye?

I attached pictures of the left and right eye.

looks like he is pulling the turret in like he has debris in it or maybe dehydrated.when he sheds, is there anything in the cage that is dirty, hairy (like a rope) or anything that can get into his eye while rubbing on it? what type of plants?
how are you giving VitA with the food>?

When taking a picture next time, use the macro setting so it will show more details. How often do you give VitA? I will recomend you to do alot of husbandry reading and compare your setup. Have you research for a reptile vet in your area? You may need to go see one. Best luck.

There is nothing in the cage that is dirty or hairy, just branches and plants. I apply couple drops on the insect and feed it to him. Those are schefflera type of plants. You can see the link to the photos in my initial post. I gave VitA last week Wed and Thursday this week Sunday and today.
