Eye Rubbing

I'm very concerned about how my chameleon is rubbing his eye. He very vigorously rubs his eye on anything to the point where it seems like his eye is moving around weirdly in his socket. It seems bulgey after he rubs it and it takes a few blinks before it's back to normal. Sadly I don't have a picture or a video of it. I fear that it might be messing with his eyesight...

That's pretty normal for a chameleon that has something bothering its eyes, even the bulging out and misshapen description you give.

The question is why does he have something in his eye that is bothering him? Often it is a husbandry failure. Few people provide enough misting in the form the chameleon will use it to clean their eyes. They need misting for more than just humidity and hydration--they need it to clean their eyes. Most hand misters produce droplets that are too big and are propelled at too high a rate of speed for the chameleon to sit under the mist and clean their eyes. An automatic mister produces almost a fog-like mist that gently falls on their face.

He recently had a small piece of shed right under his little eye, and now it's gone. I beleive that's what's bugging him so much. I've been misting over him, trying to help him dislodge it as best as I can help.
