Eye suddenly deflated

I have a three year old nosy be called Sebastian. For a couple of years he's had a long-term problem with his left eye which has always been slightly sunken, and which he struggles to keep open for long periods of time. It seems to irritate him and I often see him squeegeeing it

We've never been able to establish the cause of his problem. He eats and drinks normally, is misted and enjoys showers, and loves the humidity in the bathroom. He is generally lively although not quite as spritely as he once was.

This morning his left eye was closed as usual. I fed him four locusts. As I reached to pick him up, a clear fluid began to drip down from his left eye which suddenly deflated and has now sunk deep into his skull. I did not touch his eye as I picked him up. However, just before I picked him up he was squeegeeing it.

Currently he does not appear to be distressed. He's perched on my head as I write this. He's making that soft clicking noise that chameleons sometimes make.

He has been moulting strangely and unevenly. His skin became very wrinkled and, where it has died, it isn't peeling off very easily. His droppings and urine appear normal although he was recently constipated. We will be going to he vet, but I wonder whether anyone with some knowledge might be able to prepare me for what might be wrong.

Many thanks

Am I to understand you correctly: your chameleon has not been able to open his eye for a couple of years and you didn't take him to the vet?

What soft clicking sound do chameleons make? How many chameleons have you had that made a soft clicking noise?

I'm really glad you are finally taking him to the vet. I hope your vet is a reptile specialist because it sounds like he has a lot of things going on. When is your appointment?

I don't think anyone can guess what is going on with your chameleon. Pictures might help. Good luck. Your chameleon sounds like one tough little guy.

I obviously didn't make myself clear. When I say "We've never been able to establish the cause of his problem" what I mean is we have taken him to the vets many times and they have never been establish a cause for his eye problems. I've owned two male panther chameleons both of which have made these low frequency noises.

Comments like "I'm really glad you are finally taking him to the vet" imply cruelty and neglect that is simply not the case, and are not helpful. I have reported your post.

Sorry your guy is having issues! It is hard to guess about the eye, I would think that the eye itself has become necrotic and that is why it has sunk into the socket. Chameleons can do fine with one eye, I would worry about infection, your vet can give you something for that.

I'm sorry I upset you, believe me that was not my intent. You did not make yourself clear which was why I asked. It would have been quite clear had you said, "The vets and I have not been able to establish a cause..." rather than "We've never been able to establish the cause..." One of the first questions asked here when someone comes and asks for help has always been, Has the chameleon been seen by a vet. I asked. I'm sorry you were offended.

The only reference you ever made to the vet visit was the future appointment. Normally if something has been looked at repeatedly by a vet over the years, someone coming on here asking for help would include what the vet had said, what the vet suspected, and what the vet had ruled out. Since your post included none of that, I really believed that he hadn't been seen a vet yet, so yes, I was very glad that he was finally seeing a vet. Your post was very unclear, for which you are solely responsible.

That you would "report" me for my comment is really ridiculous. You are reporting me for saying I am glad you are finally taking him to a vet???? You come on here, asking for thoughts and help yet you can't even write your story in a clear, concise fashion while chastising me for not reading your mind???? You really have a lot of nerve.
