Facebook/MySpace Virus

My computer crashed a few days ago and I took it in. I was on FB when a "warning" balloon popped up on the bottom right and it said "warning your computer is infected". When I clicked on to see what it was, BAM, a program started downloading and told me I had 29 virus, my computer was hijacked, blah, blah, blah. A program popped up and wanted $69.99 to remove the viruses. The computer tech told me it's a new scam affecting FB and MS and all they want is your money. It's a "Fake" virus, but once the program downloads, you're screwed. He said in the future if you see a balloon message pop up, shut your computer down immediately. Just wanted to share.

I got hit with it too, and now I am waiting on restore discs to fix my Pc. It will also take a ton of work to save things off the old hard drive.

I repair computers and I've seen this twice not only is it on facebook and myspace though beware what you click in emails and links on websites....and about saving files becareful ithe first computer I restored I saved some documents and folders for a customer and after they opened one of them they brought the computer back and it was infected...

There is another version of this too that I have been warned about - you receive an email from a 'friend' on facebook suggesting that you view a youtube page. It is not from them, it is a link to a virus.

There is also another phone scam in the UK too that my brother told me about. You get a phone call from a person with a foreign accent who asks if you have a computer. When you say yes they tell you that your computer has a virus and to log onto their website to fix it. This, in turn, allows them access to your computer to download other stuff which you need to pay them to remove! I put a warning about this one in my status on facebook and a couple of days later a colleague had the phone call, and as she knew about it, she told him where to go, lol!:D

It's not just facebook or myspace, this is going around on many sites. It's a popup add that will install the program regardless of what you click on. Whenever you get a popup like that, immediately hit control+alt+delete and close out your browser. If you hit x or no, it will still install. Closing it is the only way to get rid of it.

Try Malware Bytes to get rid of it. That was working for some of them.
