Faly eggs

Texas Panther Man

My female Ayva laid on Thanksgiving day. She laid 29 eggs. I'm slowly getting her clutch sizes down. She's been on an every other day schedule for a while and I watch her number of feeders much more closely than i do the males. They occasional get treats and extras now and then.

I knew she was close and when I got home after being away forThanksgivng I saw she'd completely filled in all the test holes and she looked thinner. She was already basking and was ready to chow. I gave her a nice misting and fed her this morning.

Yeah I got home tired and extremely full. I was gonna wait til today to dig em up but my gf was actually more excited than me. She'd never been at my house when I was digging up a clutch so she wanted to see how they were laid and get to touch an egg and everything. She used to be kinda scared of them but I can see the more she's around them the more into it she's getting. She cant wait to see a live newborn baby. She asks me to check the eggs every week even though i told her we got at least 3 more months min before her first clutch hatches. :D

And thanks Laurie

Thanks everyone. Its a retained clutch so i will be happy if 1/2 are fertile. So far her first retained clutch hasnt had any spoil yet so we'll see w these.

I have heard about limiting food to gravid female to reduce clutch size but I don't think it's a good idea. When a female becomes receptive they have a number of preformed eggs waiting to be fertilize. Limiting food won't change that number it just limits the females nutrients and possibly weakening her or the eggs.

Clutch size seems to be genetic. Lowering food may not be a good idea for a breeder female.

I thought the idea behind food monitoring and lowering was that because her habitat is not abundant in feeders she will produce a smaller number of eggs so that she doesn't harm herself in the process. It makes sense to me, but you shouldn't all of a sudden take food away from a gravid female. That would be bad.

Congratulation! Pictures when your babies hatch out. We are out of California and near the El Paso area this year for Thanksgiving. Going to go to one of Texas legendary steak houses this Sunday. Kettlemans or Stateline.

One of my favorit locals. Please add me to your contacts ,and keep me posted on when you have little ones available thanks curt

Just to clarify. Im just being diligent in keeping track of her number of feeders and she only eats every other day. She still gets 10 crix or the equivalent every other day. I just dont give in and give her "treats" like i do the males. She would sit there and hand feed all day if I'd let her. And it has worked so far in that I've reduced each successive clutch. She's still laying normally and she was able to eat up until 2- days before ovispostion by reducing the number of eggs she was holding. When she laid the largest of her 3 clutches she went off feed for about 10 days prior to laying. I think that was due to the clutch size. So I really decided to be strict with her number of feeders. Since then I see that its up to me to monitor her and control her so that she doesnt overeat while being gravid.

I know retained clutches tend to run smaller so Im going to see if thats the reason for her clutches getting smaller or her feeding schedule. I will keep track and compare this yrs breeding and numbers with next yrs. ;)

I hope my female ambanja actualy lays like your faly does, she is so confusing!

Anyway good luck with your eggs, when should you have some hatchlings? Post pics when you do

+ 1 and then some!!!!

Whenever a female panther is cycling and going through the process of their hard work, always offer them whatever they are willing to chomp down on. Extra calcium included! ;)

So far what I seem to be doing is working for me and her so Im going to stick to my current schedule with her. She looks excellent and I monitor her closely. She's been eatting and drinking since laying and she actually had a few hrs of nat. sunshine on sunday as it got up to almost 70 in Houston.
