Feeder racks and feeders

I'm trying to get started but we're in a small apartment ATM so I have to stay small.

Should I look into buying more dubias females? Not sure how many I have but need to do something since my little pig (Waldo) is eating everything in site. Need to get everything up and running before Kayla gets here

Yeah, I'm not using any WC insects, too afraid. Definitely worth the couple bucks to order clean bugs.

This is incredible! I'm hoping to pick up some mass amounts of feeders at the upcoming portland expo, and this helps me a lot! I've done ton of research, and I've seen others photos, but more never hurts! Thanks for posting this!
Quick question - do you use the flex watt heat tape for every feeder bin? or just the hatchlings?
(I lied, i have more than just one question.)
Do you run into issues with the smell only having a screen top? I've seen others cut out two sides as well and replace it with aluminum screen to increase air flow and reduce the disgusting bug smell!
AAAANNNDDD how often do you clean/what do you use to clean? Just a wet paper towel with soapy water?

- how do you clean the silkworms? Do you take them out one by one? If so, how often?
- Do you use lemons? I think I saw one, but maybe it was just an orange

Wow I haven't seen this thread in a while!
That is just fruit fly cultures in a tub. It's just easier to handle them that way and the powder you see around the edges is Diatomaceous earth. I use it to kill any potential mites that often breed in the fruit fly cultures. If they get out of the cultures they don't get out of the tubs. If you have ever purchased any cultures from a commercial business then they have mites.

Yes I use flexwatt on almost all bins. If the breeders are not warm enough they will not breed. Smell is not bad as I do not put to many crickets in one bin so I don't get the die off. I use a shop vac to spot clean frequently but at least monthly I take the whole bin outside,pressure wash it and then spray with Novasan rinse,dry and it's good to go.

I do not clean silkworms,the more you mess with them the more they die. I feed them off or move the ones I want for breeding into other bins. After I have used up that bin I clean it and start over. I don't use lemons for anything but do use oranges for other feeders. I only feed the silkworm chow and I buy it from coastal silkworms/east coast in bulk 10 pounds at a time.
