hey yall, hope your havin a fine day.

i am looking for a reputable online source for crickets and silkworms. i see a lot of sites discontinuing silkie stocks and makes me wonder "why, are they that hard to raise?"
also, i see cricketsdirect.com selling crickets at half the price as the rest of the online suppliers. plus there is so many damn suppliers on the web, which to choose? dont wanna buy from an amateur breeder.

anyone have some good recommendations on online feeder source, preferably using paypal?

is using silkies as a staple the same as crickets(preparation wise)? gut load and dust em with supplements?

Crickets = LLL reptile (they actually use a 3rd party source.. they dont ship directly, but seem to be doing a great job with customer service with DOA/Issues on shipments)

Silks = Coastal Silkworm or Mulberry Farms - they also carry every other kind of worm you might want, pheonix, supers, horns, etc.

www.luckylurecricketfarm.com for crickets located right here in Florida! They are $14 for 500 or $19 for 1000 shipped to your door! Please use my name (Juli Shaw) if you order there! Great quality too! Coastal silkworms for silkies. Silkies are not cheap anywhere, but they have great quality.

cool, thanks, wonder why cricketsdirect.com is so much cheaper for crickets?im talkin 10.50 for 1000 crickets.

and im guessing with silkies that you gutload and dust with supplements like you would with crickets rite?

Ditto on the LuckyLureCricketFarm.
I placed an order with them on Firday, they shipped out on Monday, and I recieved them early on Tuesday.
That is Fast!
I acutally ordered 500 supers and they were all alive.

Juli-I refered you!;)

Ya, I triple on the Lucky Lure. Also, Coastal Silkworms is great! They have great Customer Service.

reptilefood.com , they are the best in my opinion. They have great service and are really cheap. 10.50 for 1000 crickets. I buy from them all the time now that I have 40 baby veileds. When you order 5000 or more you get a discount on the shipping, its only like $5 but its something.

please inform me on care, feeding, gutloading etc.. of silkoworms, never used or or anything and i wanna really give em a try, just dont know anything about em. thanks.

Silkies are pretty easy. They eat only mulberry leaves or silkworm food which in itself is a great gutload. You keep them dry and feed then every other day(or more if you want them to grow faster). On the CoastalSilkworms site they have great instructions on care and feeding!

I have a question. How long would it take for 300 Silkworms to eat 1/4 lb. of food? Like maybe a week? I will be ordering soon but I was going to oreder an extra pound of food.

Thanks,

LPR08

1/4 pound of food for that many small silkies would maybe last a week I am pretty sure. I would order extra food. I always keep a little extra in case I run out. If you run out you are going to lose some silkies unless you pay dearly to overnight food. I am getting ready to order also. When I order Friday I usually get them Wed.

I also use Lucky Lure and Coastal most of the time, and they are great. Two other good FL sources for crickets if you need them would be:
Lazy-H-Bait (you have to call to order no website) and
Ghanns Cricket Farm
I'll go ahead and throw out two links for dubia too:
blapitciadubia.com
blaberus.com
If you are interested and like to try some dubia this summer before you order my rents stay in Ft.P, I'm sure I have some extra you could try!

Ok, well they are the medium and I was planning on feeding them twice a day because I will be feeding full grown Bearded Dragons and my Veiled. I was going to buy the 1 lb. of wet food and plus I would have to cook the 1/4 lb. of dry food that the 300 worms come with.

Thanks,

LPR08

that would be great!!! my girlfriend cant stand the thought of roaches(our last appartment got infested) but i try to tell her they arent like that. anyways, let me know when you come to town we can meet up. always trying to diversify my feeders.

finding a tree would be great, but where would you buy leaves locally, or can you at all?

I wouldn't consider BUYING leaves lol. Just look and find a BIG tree everywhere you can. When I'm in town I'll try to find one in that area, my parents need them too for their silkies.
The big red berries are what gives it away..here a link so you know what to look for:

I am going to consider planting one and/or trying to grow a cutling soon.

nice link, if i cant find one round here, i will try to buy one and grow it in my backyard, away from my car of course.lol are all the trees the same? some people say there are berryless trees and whatnot? would those be ok?
