Feeders in winter?

I know a lot of you guys breed your own insects but does anyone order insects in the cold weather? If so from where? Trying to add some variety to my chams diet but just had a bad experience with getting a batch of dead hornworms, Im assuming from the cold. Any ideas?

I order all year. Very rarely have I had any issue's. If you are in extreme cold try silkworms. You could eggs that are in diapause so the cold won't affect them.

I'm in Illinois and it is damn freezing here. Ordered crickets from ghanns in this weather and Phoenix worms, all came alive.
Ordered 500 reptiworms from reptiworms.com, they are in decent shape, not the best.
I most recently ordered 100 hornworm eggs from greatlakeshornworms.com and they are hatching now, alive I might add. Lol

Where do you live?
Buying in the same postal region will cut 1-2 days out of your shipping time.

Most feeder sellers will guarantee live arrival, but when it is really cold or hot, require next day delivery.

CHEERS!:D

I raise my own cricks and roaches but I really need to have some silkies for
my new baby boy, but am affraid to order because it's so bloody cold!!

Owning chams on the East coast in the winter is hard.
Stupid low humidity, even my 10 gallon humidifier plus 2 table top units going
full blast, and it only goes up to 35% if the house heat is on 74F or higher.

If I set the house temp to 72, I can get the RH up to 50%, but I dont like
to let them free range unless I can get the house warmer.

I have to watch the 10 day weather forecast, and plan my feeder orders
accordingly, but need to have it delivered to my retired neighbor, or they
will all be dead by the time I get home!!!! :(

Most of the places that I order from have heat packs you can purchase with your order. I am in the PNW but order from all over the country and just have them toss in a heat pack. I have never had any problems so far this year.

Im in NY and this has been a really cold week, but not colder than any of you guys. I ordered 2 batches of horn worms and made sure I would be home to receive the package. When I opened it there was not a single one alive, which is pretty disappointing not only because I might be out the money but more because I was looking forward to feeding them to my cham.

How long do the eggs take to hatch? I guess Ill try some silkworms with next day delivery

I agree, its been so damn cold and dry here in NY the last few days. Ive owned chams in the past but now that I already got the little guy I feel like I should have waited til spring. I keep the house at about 70 and have a little space heater in his room but can't help but feel like he's cold? He stays pretty dark most of the time. Ill take your advice and try to plan my orders around the weather, though, after this hornworm episode Ill be calling surrounding pet stores and see what kinds of bugs they offer.
Appreciate the feedback guys!:)
