Feeders/Supplements

Ok, So I have yet to purchase a chameleon. I am very avid and dedicated to raising one though. I figured I would do my research to give my Chameleon the best possible life I can provide.

Anyways, I have researched extensively into enviroment/housing but I figured now is the time to worry about feeding.

I have looked up alot of things to feed a VEILED CHAMELEON but I do not understand the process of dusting and using supplements.

I was looking for an in depth feeding cycle including dusting and a nice set of feeders and how to gut-load properly and the products that coexist in efforts to do so, also quantity guaging would be awesome, for example, How many feeders should be given around certain ages and how often should those feeders be dusted with each type of dust and should all of them be dusted on that day.

If you have any input that would be awesome.

I continue to search, but I am hoping this will bring answers to the surface a little faster

Dust with regualr calcium every feeding, but DUST, not coat them so they look like ghosts, People have told me this is a pretty good supplemantation schedule.

Week 1
Mon-Sat- rep cal, no D3, special vitamins.
Sun- Dust with D3

Week 2
Mon-Sat- rep cal, no D3, no special vitamins.
Sun, rep cal with mixed vitamins( I cant remember the name, but I think its something like that)

And repeat the process. I might be wrong, as Im not an expert, so I would wait for an experts advice.

I dust LIGHTLY almost every cricket, and most superworms, with a phosphorous free calcium powder. I do this by putting a little calcium powder in the bottom of a tall container, dropping in the bug(s) and then shaking/swirling the container a couple times.
I dont usually bother to dust roaches, moths, silkworms, hornworms, butterworms, stick insects, etc.
About twice a month, I use a calcium with D3 powder instead. Note: My chameleons do not go outside.
About twice a month (not the same day as the d3 is used) I use a vitamin supplement.
I gutload pretty much all insects, and I use a WIDE variety of insects.

Check the "food diary" section of my blog (link below) to see a log of exactly what my chameleons eat each day. Usually I make note of gutloading and supplementing there as well.

Thanks for all the information so far sandra and lizard, Still looking for some more opinions and experience.. Hoping this thread livens up a bit.

I echo what Sandra said, with a few exceptions....

I do dust my silks, and hornworms. During the spring and summer when weather permits, my chams are outside 2 days a week, therfore I only use Calcium w/D3 once per month, during that time.

I essentially do what Sandra does. Calcium almost every feeding, D3 a couple times a month, vitamin supplement once or twice a month. Important to gutload as well.
