oh jeez. I turn off the UVB and white heat lamp, but I turn on a red heat lamp. My house temp is about 72.The cham or roaches? The cham should have no lights on at night.
Unless your house is getting into the 50s you don't need any heat at night.oh jeez. I turn off the UVB and white heat lamp, but I turn on a red heat lamp. My house temp is about 72.
So the pet store lady seen a succker and sold me more then I needed.Unless your house is getting into the 50s you don't need any heat at night.
She probably had no idea what she was talking about, most don't. She seen a cham and figured that they cannot handle cold. As long as your cham can bask in the morning to warm up they can take it pretty cold.So the pet store lady seen a succker and sold me more then I needed.

I wish this post was the introduction to chameleon keeping! You said it right there!!!
That is one of the worst pieces of advice there is. She might as well have said to keep them in the oven. She also told me that it was ok to house a male with a female. I have since had to double my enclosure supplies... Sucker born every minute

Feel free to continue getting advice from them and then starting a thread entitled, "How to be a bad chameleon owner".That is one of the worst pieces of advice there is. She might as well have said to keep them in the oven.
I got my order of roaches in the mail last week and neither one of my cham's will touch them. I ordered feeding tong's I will give hand feeding them a try.So as for Feeders as the title suggested...
I am planning on getting my Chameleon next weekend and I was going to try to get everything nailed down in the next week.
How has everyones Chameleon taken to Roaches? Have there been any issues with accepting the food?
Thanks
You may need to trick em into eating it...I got my order of roaches in the mail last week and neither one of my cham's will touch them. I ordered feeding tong's I will give hand feeding them a try.

I suggest using a feeder cup with the side taken out and screen on the back inside. Like take a milk jug and cut out the side...this gives the roaches something to climb up and makes them more appealing to your cham.
Here is a sample of mine...I used the container my roaches came in, this is not the finished project, I have spare painted the outside so he doesn't strike at them from the outside but I haven't taken a picture yet. Just leave enough of a lip around the edges so that they don't crawl out. Works every time for me. I've never had a cham not take roaches.....yet.
I know this is an old thread, but I have roaches on their way to my house right now (there’s a sentence I never thought I’d say). Is the screen glued to the inside of the cup? Do the roaches not get out of the cup with it set up like this? This will be my 1st time trying them.
Yes. Chams don't need like at night. Full dark ours are needed for a cham to sleep properly. No infared or night lamp. 12 hours light 12 hours dark. Get a timer for your light thats the way to go. Set it and forget it hahahah. What about darkness? Should they get some dark time?
Great job offering good advice! Unfortunately, I don't think the posters are likely to see it as this thread was last active 4 years agoYes. Chams don't need like at night.
