I ordered a 18 x 18 x 36" cage for a female panther...

Something tells me it might be to small, I am not sure.....

Unless it is a baby, yeah, it is too small :(

ummm.... my female panther lives in an 18x18x36 - she had more room than she knew what to do with. She now lives in a 18x18x30 - at least until she reaches maturity. But unless she becomes a very big female, that cage will probably last her forever.

Your female is fine in an 18" x 18" x 36", that's what I keep all my females in, but when you get yourself a male he should have a 24" x 24" x 48" to fully thrive.

I disagree with keeping an adult female panther in such a small enclosure. People have and do do it, yes, but a larger enclosure is better. Mine are in cages about 2foot wide, 2' deep and 4 foot high, and they use all of that space. They are very active. A larger enclosure also allows you to put a laying bin right in their normal cage, so you dont need to inflict stress of moving them into a different place at a time when they are extra sensetive.

How restrictive. Since I assume the laying bin is the typical 12" high, that leaves her 6inches to live in. I feel sorry for your female chameleons.

I encourage the OP to do a search on this forum and elsewhere, to gather more opinions on the subject. Clearly not everyone feels the same :)

i agree, my older female panther lives in 2''x2''x4'', IMO they need the same amount of room.(male or female)

Sandra,

In a 36" enclosure, a 12" tall laying bin would leave 24" to live in, not 6".
The 18" dimension in this context is not the height.

36" minus 12" equals 24" ... (last time I checked);)
We have been talking about 18x18x36 enclosures.

I agree, 18x18x36 would be fine. I have even heard of male panthers being kept successfully in that size enclosure.

I keep my males in the 24X24X48 cages and females in the 18X18X36. Everyone is happy. The males tend to roam around their territory more then the females although they all like to sit on a branch and watch out the window all day!
