Female Jackson (Xanth) color question

So I recently acquired a 12-13 month old CB female Jacksons. I've only had her two days now. She's eaten 3 dubia and drank quite a bit of water. So not bad for only having her 2 days. Looks extremely healthy with bright eyes etc.

She is more of a dark brown/black with a cream/tan coloration with her. No green whatsoever. Are some females just this way without green? Is it a type of "morph". I've seen some green female Jacksons and when they are stressed, they turn dark but the green stays with them.

Here she is. She is just under 4" STV and around 7-8" with tail.

I am just curious to see if this is just a normal coloration and not all Jackson females are green.

All female jacksons should be green in coloration. Give her some time to settle in...

What are her temps you are keeping her in?

Yes, that is a stress pattern.

She may not be fully green yet, she still seems quite young, and they can have a brownish and red coloration at that age. She should have some green when relaxed though.

A full pic of the setup would be nice.

I just looked at her sleeping and she was lighter but still cream. No green. My male jacksons was green by 4-5 months. Shes in a 2x2x3 for now. 68-72 ambient with 80-84 basking. 5.0 reptisun. Ive seen some green females much younger than 7-8 months old. And this one is 12-13 months.

Here's a pic of her sleeping. I'm not too worried about what she turns out to be as long as she's healthy. I am just curious to find out if there are some that just don't get the green some do.

I have seen the orange-ish "morph" ones and they tend to stay brown with orange highlights.

This was her just moments after being woken up. She was a little lighter in color actually sleeping, but by the time I turned on the lights and took the pic she darkened a bit.

So if anyone has any info on the female coloration as adults (12 month+), that'd be great!

The answer is no. There are no "morphs". Adult females should be green, green/yellow, green/blueish when unstressed and healthy.

color morphs

I purchased a female with similar coloration as well. She shows pretty broad color differentiation between when she's happy and when she's not and she's only got a teensy tiny hint or green (and blue) around her eyes. She is basically beige and always has a peach colored stripe down her middle. Not all Jackson's are green when they're healthy. She is still young so she will probably darken up some but she will never be GREEN. Has there been any genetic testing on these beige Jackson's to test for a color morph or is it all just speculation?

I agree with that. My female is darker green with black triangles. When she stresses out she turns solid black.
You would think she's stressed when you first see her until she really stresses.
However she does have green it's just very dark green and not tan.

I also just had a very large clutch from my gal.
Some babies are very very dark, some are exactly like that tan color. Several have that red phase. A couple are already green. And I hope it holds but 2 are yellow. Like banana yellow.

^^^^^ what he said - PICS !! :D
I was breeding for red - I started last yr- but I just lost my main breeding girl Olive :(, all but 2 of the red babies she had, and many other of my Jax - basically my whole breeding project :( I can tell you , I do believe your girl will have pink eyes, a red-ish gular area, and some red on her side- I have one who is also about 9 mos, and still brown and red w/ at times yellow eyes - but I can not breed her - she came in as a rescue w/ a bad bite on her side, it deformed her side - so I dont think breeding her would be a good idea - keep us up dated on your girl - I would love to follow her colors :)
here is a pic of my red/brown w/ yellow eyes - in this pic she is a bit stressed, its not a very good pic- but I would love to keep notes w/ you - and see how these girls develop :)

She may never be green, no. However, if the animal is kept properly, and allowed to mature, she will be.

Seeing as how this thread is over a year old, maybe the OP could give us an update?

Healthy, happy adult female jacksons are about as green as green gets. They show blue and yellow in areas, but generally are green.

Young jacksons show reds, browns, and tans more often, but as they age they turn green. Swear to god.

The color pattern shown in the first photo of this thread is a stress pattern. Swear to god. It may have been from getting settled in, or a husbandry, or health issue, but that's what it is.

I'm excited about the yellow babies I have, not the red.
Do the yellows turn green too?
Have you come across yellow babies?
I'll post more pics tomorrow when theirs light.

The answer is no. There are no "morphs". Adult females should be green, green/yellow, green/blueish when unstressed and healthy.

So, I've seen several experienced people say adamantly that there is no such thing as a red phase. What are you basing that on? I have seen pictures of adult Jackson's whose "red phase" colors have - maybe changed a bit - but basically stayed NOT green. Has someone done a genetic study or something that has disproved the red phase genes theory or is this just your opinion?

I just got this girl. She's roughly 7 months old and very red! When I first saw her she was black/tan. I actually messaged a breeder because I wasn't sure if this was even a jacksonii with how red she is. The breeder I spoke with told me it was a "red phase" and will go away.
